Wow. Sounds easy. I'll try this later today and come back here with the result. Thanks! :number1:

Tried booting MX-23.2_KDE_x64.iso and didn't get a UI. On the boot screen, I had to press ALT + F1 to get onto the login screen. I entered root-credentials and started "Startx", but when the UI should be loaded, I only saw the mouse cursor. No UI appeared.

I booted into MX-23.2_ahs_x64.iso and ran your command in the terminal. Linux-Firmware was installed. Then I got some firmware errors ...

But after restarting the system, everything was fine. Monitor and graphics card were detected, and the correct resolution was set. Perfect.

But ... I want to use KDE desktop ... Is it possible, to get the AHS kernel into the KDE ISO? Or am I able to integrate the latest Linux-Firmware into the ISO? I tried installing KDE Plasma into the AHS system and removed all XFCE packages. But it still looks like "not ready". That's why I would like to use the KDE ISO.

You can boot with the KDE on any other pc then install the most receny kernel as possible (either as I mentioned previously, manually, or with MXPI with 2 clicks) then to make it permanent:

MX RemasterCC from menu, finally:
Live Usb Kernel Updater ...

Then you can boot with that on this pc...

Or.. just try to boot with nomodeset parameter on current pc.

(either select failsafe nomodeset in Advanced Options or just press E and manually type nomodeset after ... quiet splash splasht then press F10 .. While you're at it remove the splasht and change it to nosplash: .... quiet nomodeset nosplash )

(In the meantime those warnings are actually info, ignorable )

I'll try that. Thanks for helping again! :)

Added some more to the above post.

Shortly:

press E :

Code: Select all

quiet nomodeset nosplash
press F10

:)

In the meantime if that succeeds and you install the KDE you can use the already downloaded and extracted one, just copy all under /lib/firmware/ then update initramfs ...

You can right-click on linux-firmware-20240115 folder and "Open Terminal Here" then:

Code: Select all

sudo cp -R * /lib/firmware/ ; sudo update-initramfs -uk all
Can even use that on all distros...

Thanks for mentioning your change. I didn't see this. Now I know. :)

As a summary, I would:

Boot with nomodeset nosplash , and in case it succeeds, install.

Then on the installed MX => MXPI : most recent kernel possible ..

Then the firmware .. reboot.

Do I have to remove "nomodeset" parameter after installation? Or is that not saved?

Not saved. They're just for that boot (even when done on the installed system) :)

Shortly you don't need to do anything about that after installation, (however you may prefer nosplash like me if you like the flowing text :) In that case "MX Boot Options" from menu for (any) permanent parameter changes)
