I've got 5 packages for won't update even after multiple tries. While my system seems to run okay, I'd like to remove these update bugs.

Any ideas?

Here are the 5 packages:

Code: Select all

The following packages will be upgraded:

In Synaptic, if you deselect the two in the listing that are giving the error, you can update the other ones.

Okay thanks! I upgraded the others manually one at a time.

Now I still have these two errors:

Code: Select all

Can't do much about it. Fix missing isn't going to help as they are not there. I have tried changing the repos, that didn't do it either. I suspect an error somewhere that needs fixing by the team.

Hi,

I am having similar problems but for the time being have decided to do nothing. Is the best advice to wait until the team identify and fix the error or is there anything I should do now?I

I'd say wait. There isn't anything you can do.

Has the team been notified? Is there a formal way to report update bugs?

They know. As soon as they come in they'll see it and take action. It's not like there is an emergency going on.

They should see it before they come on even.. they use the same systems after all, same thing shows up for them.

@Eadwine Rose: Not being familiar with such things in MX-Linux (a relative rarity when compared with Windows update problems), I am unsure as to what to do with the 'new updates available' notification on the taskbar. You say there is nothing I can do, does this include leaving that notification as it is too and that, when the issue is resolved by the team, the notification will be modified automatically and I do not need to reject the updates as they stand at present? Thanks.

The basic idea is simply do nothing and wait till we get word.

When things get fixed they should go away once you run the update checker again if they are indeed faulty, or they will update after all.

Synaptic will not allow me to deselect these..

Quit Synaptic, start it again. Select those other than the ones that give the error, and right click to mark for upgrade.

Or alternatively, upgrade all, right click the ones with the error, unmark.

Well, those are built as as part of the latest AHS kernel, so they should not be in the main section. To be clear, those are not the kernel, just some helpers for compilers. But if you happen to have installed the KDE edition, that uses AHS by default.

I had my suspicions when I saw ahs in there.

In any case, a reload (check for updates) sorted it out and they were gone.

I'm surprised no one linked the thread I had already made about this same issue yesterday (8/19/23). I switched repos and it fixed it. Took some testing with several different repos but finally found one that worked. I should have thought about using good old synaptic! Or actually just waiting another day for the fix would have worked to. Thread from yesterday:

That didn't work for me, unfortunately. There are really two options here:

1) from the terminal, I ran apt-get upgrade --fix-missing. That allowed 3 of the 5 updates to process. Per your comments above, we'll await the other "non-update" updates to be corrected by the team.

2) Ignore the green update box for now. Watch here for comments from the team regarding this error and its resolution. There is nothing going on with this particular update error that is user correctable. Most likely your system will run without issue with or without these updates, so no harm in waiting for a resolution.

So you installed something ahs on a non ahs system, as I pointed out it was ahs.

@whell Could be that the fix needs to propagate still. Give it some time.

No I switched to the Atlanta Georgia repos since I couldn't find another repo that wouldn't keep giving me the same updates and then those AHS updates disappeared. The only ones left were the ones for my current non AHS system.

***EDIT*** There were only 2 updates that were AHS on mine by the way....

the mirrors update on their own schedules. the *.mxrepo.com mirrors are sorted already, as are many of the other faster updating mirrors.

If you don't have such (Realtek and Broadcom) wifi devices you can even purge them and get rid of.
