Not sure why this happened but I changed the color to a brown and it worked as a color change. But it changed my KDE desktop to the default. It had been highly configured with an additional panel and several desktop widgets.

The changes work with any Papirus icon set.... I typically use Papirus-Dark

?!? All the tool does is create a new theme with folder icons in either ~/.local/icons or /usr/share/icons.
Not sure how it could change any other settings, it doesn't even set the new icon theme as current.

Did you use the predefined themes or the recolor function?
When did KDE revert to the default desktop?
On creation of the new icon theme?
On selecting the new icon theme in the kde appearance settings?

Used predefined themes. It is possible that I installed a different papirus theme, not sure. it occurred on selecting the new icon theme, papirus brown dark in the kde appearance settings as I recall. I am reluctant to try again based on what happened.

@Melber

2 comments on the applications.

1. maybe some sort of progress indicator during the regeneration of gtk-icon-cache. its possible to change icon themes before the success dialog is shown, which could potentially cause an issue. not richb's issue, but incomplete icon presentation issues.

2. offering to set the icon theme in mx-tweak while running KDE/plasma does not apply. mx-tweak cannot at this time change the plasma icon set.

Steps as best I can remember.
1. From papirus folders color choose "Use pre defined themes" Which one I do not recall
2. In KDE System Settings > Appearance >Icons choose the created papirus brown dark theme.

Desktop widgets
1. Weather report
2. Total CPU Use
3. Disk usage

Also an additional panel at the desktop top with several application icons eg, Vivaldi, Dolphin, System Settings, ksnip, MX Tools, MX Package Installer, Shutdown, Activity switcher.

Ok thanks.

in the meantime, check in your .config folder to see if you have a permissions issue with any files.

That will take a while. There is a ton of them in there.
