Two computers tried with similar results.

Desktop has I7-930 + 6G ram + GT-550 Nvidia graphics

1. No Problems loading or installing.
2. No startup sound or system sounds. Will play music if I can convince it to allow it to look at my storage drives (I cannot figure this "mount/unmount" stuff out--MY drives--just let me see them)
3. I like my windows full screen (I have a big monitor not a smart phone) Just let me see the screen. How do I set default to "full screen"?
4. Sgfxi script (used on all previous versions of Mepis on this machine) errors and will not complete. (Do not know if I even need to run it, but it doesn't work)

Laptop Dell XPS1340
Intel Core 2 Duo + 4G ram + Nvidia graphics.

1. load & install no problems.
2. Will not start into GUI. Must use alt+F2 to login then startx.
3. No sounds at all--Cannot play music cuz it refuses to allow me to see the Windows partition on same drive--See #2 above.
4. No wireless networking--Ceni is no help--I do not know how to configure it.
5. Sgfxi will not run Do not get as far as with desktop--says /usr/local/bin does not exist.
6. Cannot figure out how to add bluetooth mouse--bluetooth icon is lighted (should be--is under Mepis 12 & Windows)

I cannot figure this "mount/unmount" stuff out--MY drives--just let me see them
As the QuickStart says, right click the desktop > Desktop Settings > Icons tab to change that behavior.
3. No sounds at all--Cannot play music cuz it refuses to allow me to see the Windows partition on same drive--See #2 above.
As the QuickStart says, try right-clicking the speaker icon > mixer, and unmuting or adjusting as needed
No wireless networking--Ceni is no help--I do not know how to configure it.
If you want to report this, then we need the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -F
; in general, you start by clicking on the Network Manager icon, as the QuickStart says
Sgfxi will not run Do not get as far as with desktop--says /usr/local/bin does not exist.
xgfxi is in /usr/sbin/, so there seems to be an error here somewhere in the menu, needs to be fixed--thanks
Cannot figure out how to add bluetooth mouse--bluetooth icon is lighted (should be--is under Mepis 12 & Windows)
on my system, a bluetooth mouse just worked as soon as I plugged in the little receiver in a USB port--in fact, that has been the case with every Linux distro I have ever tried!

Takehome message: don't expect to be able to use a new DE without reading the basic document!

Actually, I thought I had samba fully installed, but I guess not. Trying to install samba, I get the following error message:

"The following packages have unmet dependencies:
samba : Depends: libwbclient0 (= 2:3.6.6-6+deb7u2) but 2:4.1.3+dfsg-2~bpo70+1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages."

Anyone have a thought on a work around for this?

There seems to be no way to have an xfce4-screenshooter icon in the panel, it crashes and is removed. Has anyone managed to add it? What's more, the default file names it produces are invalid. The .png images can't be moved to a flash drive without getting new names.
The idea to have date and time added to them sounds good, but it isn't working.

No. I did map it to Alt-F5 (see QuickStart), and I always have to change the file name. Will try to look at that later.

use the metapackage-installer application in Applications. Choose Network ->Samba

Funny, I never had any issues installing samba, plus the samba package is not required to connect to shares on another machine, though for me it is essential as I have a variety of items I like to share from my systems.

I have corrected all the problems with my Dell laptop.

I formatted the partition and have given up!!

I hate to give up; however, I find this just too frustrating. I have installed MX-14 three times on this machine. Same CD used on desktop box

I cannot get Synaptic to work on a wired connection--just freezes. Even with the slider up--NO SOUND. Wireless does not work. Cannot boot into GUI. Cannot locate procedures to install Bluetooth Mouse (Bluetooth built in (Works on Win 7 & Mepis 12 B)). Cannot figure out how to see the Windows partition to check if music stored there will play (works OK on desktop box).

At this time, I must just back away and (attempt to) keep my mouth shut.

Until some later time, See Ya.

Are you sure you got a good burn? Check the md5sums.

Anyhow, beta2 isn't far away.
