Re: Most used sites in Vivaldi
Sure go ahead.
Just be mindful that the topic I started had a question to begin with, so I guess that needs to be split off and the two tricks added into this one.
Or maybe split them off into a new topic here, and @richb can repost it in there. Might be easier.

Re: Vivaldi tips & tricks
Pretty much all users have seen this thing by now:

Those stupid Image Copied, Link Copied pop up bubbles that you see of late. I have searched for hours altogether, and every result I see says disable that Top Chrome Toasts thing, which is no longer there.
There is also another flag to turn them back on, a few said, and THEN you can disable them again. ALSO no longer there.
There is stubborn, and then there is Eadwine Rose.
Just now I happened to use the right search parameters.
How to get rid of Image Copied, Link Copied, etc.
The source, here: https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-on-des ... ent-807790
And also here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10549/modding-vivaldi
Written out instructions:
First of all, be sure to make a copy of your .config/vivaldi folder. That way you can easily revert should this not go right on your browser system.
Put this code in a file (open mousepad or another text editor, paste it in)
Save the file with a .css extension in a folder where you want your modifications to be.
Then, open
Check "Allow CSS modifications", you can close this tab now.
Open Settings, Appearance.
Under "Custom UI Modifications" choose the folder you saved your .css file in earlier.
Restart Vivaldi to see it in effect.
It works for me in 7.5.3735.74

Re: Vivaldi tips & tricks
OK, this is just plain awesome. After 7 years I needed (too much not working well) to upgrade my laptop from a ThinkPad X1C gen 5 with i5 to a X1C gen 9 with a i7 (refurbished). It's a fabulous upgrade for me and I could never need--not even want--anything bigger. Machine is in terrific condition and I paid less that 1/3 price of new.
But what about Vivaldi you may ask. I snooped around and decided the most reliable and recent advice I could follow had these steps:
1) save old ~/.config/vivaldi
2) install vivaldi (MXPI) on new machine but do not start it
3) paste old config file into new machine
4) launch browser
5) a few other complicated steps involving first setting up synchronization and then using it
Carried out 1-4 in a couple of minutes -- and I was done, I mean completely done! Speed dials, bookmarks, passwords all present and working, the whole shebang.
Gotta love Vivaldi!

For me, #5 was all I ever really needed - I sync my "whole shebang" among many different laptops, pads, and my phone, and it all works.Jerry3904 wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:14 pm OK, this is just plain awesome. That copying of the folder is exactly how I do things when I move installs over to another drive, or machine. Easy peasy!

This works with Brave Browser too, along with Firefox and its derivates. Great tip that works well with most browsers when upgrading, reinstalling or simply moving to another machine.Eadwine Rose wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:50 pm That copying of the folder is exactly how I do things when I move installs over to another drive, or machine.
