desktop file for gsimplecal

MXFB uses this calendar but since it has no desktop file it does not show up in any menu. I created a draft basic file using DeepL and would like to have it reviewed and/or expanded.

Please copy the most recent post with file text in the thread to make changes. Thanks for any help.

I believe the comment for [pt_BR] should be the same as it is for [pt].

Not this translation
@siamhie, it's not meant to be a translation. It's meant to be a complete description or explanation of the program.

But I can't find detailed information about the "Calendar" program anywhere. Is the goal to hide information about the "Calendar" program's features from the end user?

@marcelocripe I will in fact reduce your long comment to the same length as everyone else--thanks for understanding.
Jerry3904, please don't change the text I created. It was the best I could produce with so little information about the "Calendar" program.

In the entry "Comment[pt_BR]=" I use the following format: I provide the original name in English, which is enclosed in single quotes for Brazilian users, and then I try to describe the program's main features as best as possible.

Please tell me what the information that the "Calendar" program was developed with GTK is for?

Besides the "Calendar" program displaying the days of the week, the month, and the year, what else can be done with the "Calendar" program?

This information should be in the "Comment=" entry in English in the ".desktop" file.

I'll give some good examples of text that are useful for users who have never seen the program and who, if they read the description, will immediately understand what the program does or what it's for:

zzzfm.desktop:

Comment=Browse the file system
Comment[pt_BR]=The ‘zzzFM’ is a file manager that allows you to browse or explore the operating system’s files and folders through a graphical interface

alsamixer.desktop:

Comment=ALSA Audio
Comment[pt_BR]=The ‘ALSA Audio’ or ‘AlsaMixer’ allows you to adjust various functions and sound control, the program starts in a window with a black background, press the F6 key, use the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard, select your audio card and press the 'Enter' key, if you have more than one audio card available, all will be displayed, to control the volume, use the right or left arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate between the various audio mixer options, select the desired option, for example: main control (Master), headphones (Headphone), speaker (Speaker), recording (Mic), amplifier (Pre-Amp) and use the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to increase or decrease the value of the selected option

alsamixer-equalizer.desktop:

Comment=ALSA Audio Equalizer
Comment[pt_BR]=The ‘ALSA Audio Equalizer’ or ‘Alsamixer Equalizer’ allows you to adjust the bass, midrange and treble of the sound, the program starts in a window with a black background, use the directional arrows on the keyboard to the right or left to navigate between the different audio equalizer options and use the directional arrows on the keyboard to the up or down to increase or decrease the value of the selected option
Note: The text "headphones (Headphone), speaker (Speaker), recording (Mic), amplifier (Pre-Amp)" appears to you in duplicated English. Please understand that the text in parentheses is the text displayed in the program, which in turn has no translation, and the text before the parentheses has the translation into my language. This is how translators have to do it when parts of the program text are not translated or when the program itself is not translated.

Compare the text of the entry in English with the text of the automatic translation from Portuguese that I'm sending you for your reading.

My goal with the ".desktop" file for the "Calendar" program was to do the same as I did with "zzzfm.desktop," "alsamixer-equalizer.desktop," "alsamixer.desktop," and so many other ".desktop" files. But, it seems, you're too lazy to write in English. Why don't you describe the programs in detail? So, how do you expect users to know what it's for or what it does if you don't describe the program in detail?

Words have power. Well-placed words can serve to teach, clarify, promote, disseminate, and praise. Meanwhile, poorly placed words can serve to misinform, omit, denigrate, or disparage. Therefore, use your words for the good of MX Linux, which will be for the good of its users. Words also have the power to start a war or create peace.

Please, @siamhie and @Jerry3904 respect my words, which were only not better because I couldn't find detailed information about the "Calendar" program.

@siamhie, não é para ser uma tradução. É para ser um descrição ou explicação completa sobre o programa.

Mas eu não encontro em lugar nenhum as informações detalhadas sobre o programa "Calendar". Por acaso o objetivo é esconder do usuário final as informações sobre as funcionalidades do programa "Calendar"?

@marcelocripe I will in fact reduce your long comment to the same length as everyone else--thanks for understanding.

zzzfm.desktop:

Comment=Browse the file system
Comment[pt_BR]=O ‘zzzFM’ é um gerenciador de arquivos que permite navegar ou explorar os arquivos e as pastas do sistema operacional por meio de uma interface gráfica

alsamixer.desktop:

Comment=ALSA Audio

alsamixer-equalizer.desktop:

Comment=ALSA Audio Equalizer

As palavras possuem poder.

@marcelocripe That's not what is asked in this thread. What the devs are looking for is the translation to the word they are going to use for the program's desktop file.

In this case, it is "Simple GTK calendar".

They need to compile a list of all languages for this phrase.
They don't need or want a description of the program, that is not what this thread is all about. I hope you understand.

@eselma, since you modified my text, could you explain what this sentence without beginning, middle and end means?
Comment[pt_BR]=Calendário GTK simples
What is GTK?

What's so simple about GTK?

What is it for and what does the MX Linux Calendar do?

Know that the structure of Brazilian Portuguese, when well-written and in accordance with standard language, includes a subject, a verb, and a predicate. If this structure isn't necessary in your language, at least respect mine. When a sentence is well-constructed, it has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and it makes complete sense.

The text produced in GNU/Linux lacks clarity, which is why it's so difficult for beginners to use MX Linux and many other operating systems.

Please put more effort into describing your program, because no one is forced to guess what it's for or what it does.

If anyone who isn't a native speaker can change text written by a native speaker, then I think I'm wasting my time translating MX Linux.

Changing my text was disrespectful to me and my volunteer work as a translator for MX Linux.

- - - - -

@eselma, já que você modificou o meu texto, poderia explicar o que significa esta frase sem começo, meio e fim?
Comment[pt_BR]=Calendário GTK simples

Where will each of the phrases be used?

I understand that the texts will be used in the ".desktop" file, which is used to display the text in menus and can also be found by programs like Rofi, AppSelect, Albert, Kupfer, Ulauncher, etc.

The text in the entry "Comment[pt_BR]=" is usually displayed in the search results of the programs I mentioned above.

You could see every language translation was short and to the point, which is what is needed, or they all would be longer. Most likely this is for a pop up or some short descriptor thing.

Yours didn't match the rest of them so that is why it got adjusted. You cannot put a REALLY long text in there, as popup texts would end up really long.

Of course your work is appreciated, and you are free to provide the proper short and sweet bit that would match the length of the other texts provided.

@marcelocripe It has nothing to do with disrespecting your translation work, it just has to do with the limits of the text's context of use--as others have explained.

If you do not want your lengthy translation shortened, that's no problem because I'll just proceed without it. I need to get this finished and have no interest in any further discussion of this topic. Sorry.

The third sentence is awful and completely meaningless.
