Can't share png images created with GIMP

Is not being able to share PNG images onto social media a limitation of encryption (from installation)? It's frustrating. Using either method of copy/paste or drag/drop doesn't work.

Many social media sites only allow jpg's, for a few reasons - one of which is size. There is nothing different about GIMP png's vs any other png's.

Try saving the images as jpg and then share them.

I used to be able to share PNGs. But ok, I'll try saving them as JPG and see what happens then.

Update:
Same thing with the JPGs. They don't get shared.

What web site is this happening on?

What I have found is sometimes sites have an issue (I have no idea what) with uppercase extensions, so.. .JPG doesn't get accepted, .jpg will. As Gimp saves in uppercase, try saving as lower case.

If I may chime in. By default gimp should be saving with lowercase from what I can tell with my installation, so that seems a little odd to be capitalized for you (if that is the case). Also if you happen to be using a tor relay to access site, many won't allow you to upload for good reason. Attached is an image I just made with gimp to show it works from encrypted partition. Have you tried to reinstall GIMP yet?

I'm reaching, but perhaps a space in the filename?

Whether you use copy & paste, drag=n=drop, the command line or a graphical interface (browsing to file and selecting it) to upload a file, the name of the file that transfers (I'm pretty certain) remains the same. If you do a Screenshot and paste the name of course might not be or if you are copy and pasting an image embedded in a document, the name likely changes from the original.

What websites allow for file names is differs from what your local computer operating system might allow or compensate for. Some systems just decide to accept file extension names whether or not they are capital letters or worse have spaces or hyphens and others may not. Web server operating systems often get particular about the file naming nomenclature. Not allowing file extensions to be capital letters might be one of the rules. Some websites (especially social media websites, based upon experience) forbid uploads of any image. I used to paste screenshots on a social media site until maybe a year ago when this no longer worked unless I saved the file.

Can you attach a small example of a problem file here?

I came across this on a site that has its own associated app. I could not for the life of me upload a photo from my Laptop, but when I used their app on my phone, I was able to upload the same photo without any fuss. The only difference was their app allowed an upload while my browser was stopped from doing so. The photo I tried to upload was identical to the one on my phone because I downloaded it through a USB cable to my Desktop.

I am suspecting that with all of these controls popping up everywhere, this type of thing is only going to accelerate to a point where only junker devices like phones with "cough!" trusted apps will have authority to upload.

Could it be because of disk encryption that this is happening? If so, I've seen that the only solution to 'unencrypt' is to reinstall from scratch without the disk encryption. Is this correct?

Could it be that the functions of MX Linux are slowly being eradicated because of the disk encryption? If so, what I've learned is the only solution to 'decryption' is to reinstall the OS from scratch.

@DaleB1970 There have been no reports of that, AND someone posted a pic here, in this thread from an encrypted MX - as I have done just now too.

It will help ifyou answer a few of the questions that were raised: specifically :

- What web browser are you using?

- What website is this happening on?

This has been happening when using the Discord app on a system with a 14 y.o. mobo. The video card is maybe 5 yrs old.
