That's making me insane for a couple of weeks by now.

Generally I always somehow find a solution but until now, the only "solution" is to log out and in again.

So there's not much I can say about it. I could never see any problem in any log I opened and I could never connect the disappearance with any direct action. Actually it's rather (or only?) happening, when I'm not using the PC. The present powersaving settings only switch off the monitor with the integrated USB hub. When I switch it on again, if I'm lucky, the sound is still available. If not, there is simply a red bar over the Audio Volume tray icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. If I open the audio system settings, it's totally blank. I spent countless hours trying all possible tools and cli commands to check the audio hard and software, at absolutely no avail.

Moreover I read many threads, here and at other places. Still I couldn't find somehow any connection. There was this configuration problem (mistake) some time in december 2023 and I first thought, it could be connected somehow but apparently no. Updating the kernel, except bringing all the additional problems which I had after that (I always need to totally rebuild the NVIDIA drivers), unfortunately did also not change anything.

I'm open for (good) suggestions.

The weird part is that it happens even without a suspend.

What if you:

I am also going to suggest trying this out with a liquorix kernel. ( 6.5.11 or 6.6.9 ) both can be found in the MX Package Installer - Enabled Repos tab ) You need to install both linux-headers-xxx and linux-image-xxx for the version you try.

Reboot once installed and then do a qsi to verify your running what you just loaded. and test.

If that is the command to remove and add again the snd_hda_intel module, then probably it's not the one we need here. The sound is coming over HDMI cable from the NVIDIA adapter. So maybe I should try this with the nvidia module?

Does KDE still have that extra sound layer called phonon?

If so, if above suggestions fail for you......try installing a running another desktop. Since you like big desktops try XFCE.

Thanks again, I will step by step try these various commands, after I had the problem again.

Now I'm starting to think that maybe there is somehow a connection with an Avantree usb-stick (DG-60), working as bluetooth dongle / audio transmitter. I'm using it from time to time but not these last days. Hence I need to test all this over a couple of days. I'll give a feedback for sure.

So here the first feedback, more will follow.

2-3 days passed without the audio to disappear and then it happened again, without having used the Avantree USB stick (mentionned above). So this rules out this cause. Then already a big thangs to Dolphin, who is always pointing in a good direction, which I appreciate very much. Very likely the cause will remain to be discovered but it's already great not to have to log out and in again (having to save all open stuff and log in everywhere again), to regain a working audio functionality. So a single liner, as Dolphin suggested, takes care of the proper resetting:

If it was just after a suspend & wake up it would be easy (we would make that command auto-issued , also it would be easy to understand why it stops working..). Till then, as you might already know, you can create hotkey(s) and/or launcher with that command, then just press your key(s) or click the icon on panel etc...

Getting an "Audio" section of your QSI when the sound has gone missing could be of some help. Both the Nvidia and integrated sound chip are using the intel snd driver, though.

Just compared to the initial QSI and it seems the wireplumber has been disabled. Anyone knowing the in-depth maybe, as to what could cause that? (Honestly I haven't a clue about what wireplumber is, I'll need to read about it.
