Kernel 6.5.3-2-liquorix not available yet?

Posted: Fri Oct 06, 2023 8:53 am

Hi,

I notice that there was a new liquorix kernel, so I decided to try it like I normally do, but hit into this error over the last several days on different computers. I thought it might just be a server issue and selected different repositories, but same error. Is there something else I should have enabled to use this kernel?

I'm on MX-23 fluxbox (with AHS enabled) and I don't see the 6.5.3 kernel available.
I'm using the LA repo so maybe your repo isn't up to date.

As @siamhie stated in post above ... current/latest liquorix is 6.5.5-2 :exclamation:

Being human and not having infinite time, I port over a newer Liquorix kernel maybe once a week. However, the current 6.5-6 in our repos is based on 6.5.5 and 6.5.6 release candidates.

Liquorix versions their kernels in a different manner than Debian, but for us there was never a 6.5.3-2: https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/ahs/l/linux-liquorix/

sorry, i'm not a programmer, i don't know much about the background, i'm an advocate of "use the MXPI" myself whenever possible, but also see if it's always necessary.
I've been using the liquorix kernel directly from liquorix for over 2 years now. i've also adopted it as the source in packagemanger, which means i always get the latest in mormal, automatic, backup- currently that's the 6.5.5-2.
I could never determine in practical work whether there were differences in performance or operational stability between kernel from the mxpi or directly from the creator.

currently i have no kernel from mxpi, my fallback is the current xanmod :)

FWIW. I'm using Liquorix 6.5.5 on vanilla debian & LiliDog, no MX repos involved

See snapshot of liquorix that shows as available.

the popular apps entries are static/manually done, and I probably messed up the entry. i'll update the mxpi listings. thanks.

On MXPI, I don't see 6.5.5 ...hmm ... odd? Only see the one shown in above pix.

@razor2021 Go to the Enabled Repos tab and search for liquorix.

@razor2021 Go to the Enabled Repos tab and search for liquorix.
I'll add that you will need to install the headers as well as the kernel.

The top two were installed from MXPI>Enabled Repo, they are metapackages, non-version specific, i.e. no numbers in MXPI's "package name",
therefore they auto-update to the latest .dot release.

I see the headers for liquorix in the enabled repos! Usually it got installed when I choose the kernel. Is this new that I need to do this when choosing a new kernel?

Ok, I just saw @dolphin_oracle comment on refreshing the MXPI listing. I'll update the kernel once that's done. I see the headers and images in the enabled repos. And I now understand what you guys were referring to in other similar kernel posts for other issues. That explains some of the other liquorix kernels that was higher than what I saw available in my MXPI.

for the record, I did have

Code: Select all

2023-10-03 20:23:00 install linux-image-6.5.3-2-liquorix-amd64 amd64 <none> 6.5-2~mx23+1
2023-10-03 20:22:57 install linux-headers-6.5.3-2-liquorix-amd64 amd64 <none>
installed at one time, which is probably why I screwed up the mxpi entry. it might never had made it to main, staying in our ahs-staging repo instead and preempted by the 6.5.5 kernel.

currently in mxpi, if you have the liquorix repo included, 6.5.6.1, was then also updated normally this morning. difference to the predecessor I could not notice now, runs smoothly, like its predecessor, its predecessor (and so on, the last 2 years)

All works well now with the MXPI refreshed. I see only 6.5.5-2 available. If another kernel shows up later, will update as well. I agree the liquorix kernels are very smooth.
