Sorry mods if I am not going by rules I apologise but I'm having a crises , sorry to burden anyone but I just googled and this place showed up,

I have PTSD , Addiction , memory problems etc and just need some assistance or assurance as I believed someone has access to my MX Linux latest version Installed around a week ago , I'm not thr best at tech so bare with me , Windows most my life then heard about Linux around 10 years ago , went from daily using windows to Mint to and used Qubes for a bit. Always have to Google stuff as I can never remember a thing, so here I am asking anyone that reads this and has the knowledge and some spare time , I beg of u you help a brother

Also a few days ago there was a post titled something like "Auto login does not like ....." and the admin did mention something about a code part he had posted , the he did not recognise and said its not a MX written code and asked the poster if he had edited it , he said he probably did or similar, and the admin posted in more details as what the original code should say , I will look for it now and link here, I googled for.that as the system update popped up showing a name like " user settings" (paraphrasing coz my memory )
Thr only thing was the git hub page it was not inked no MX Linux or any dev mentions etc but had the same name file that was in discover update , no update in 10 years , when console opens , a brief in screen text says" bash profile preloaded?" And dissapears in seconds

Love from the UK

The QSI I believe does adjust to hide the private stuff. Not much that I can do but you'll have to wait till those a bit more in the know wake up (most are in the US, hence), maybe they can help :)

You might want to edit your subject line to something more descriptive of the issue you are having.

The QSI report has been scrubbed of all personal information. The most we might be able to discern about you from report is your country of origin, but you've already stated that.

There's nothing to worry about. That statement is just "geek speak" for 'a generic bash profile was created and loaded by your distribution at start-up'.

i tried readin this thread 2x. not sure what you are really talking about. just some comments though. does your system work or not? if it does maybe you are good to go as they say. 2nd. be careful of installing apps or old apps as such that are not maintained. 3rd. do not just follow a bunch of comments and advice on a forum without quite knowing the source - a person's knowledge, and also advice that you may not be following. as a minimal knowledge guy i always hesitate to just jump in there, if you know what i mean. lastly - can you just do a clean install and not try to mess with or tweak too much re: scripts and terminal commands and weird third party apps if you can and get it running and then go from there?

decades ago when i struggled to get into linux and also get something to work on my laptops - i learned something from an old dear, now deceased friend from Sweden - and i try to follow it: if it is not broke then don't fix it; and if you cannot fix it then don't break it! be patient and people here will do their best to help you out - good luck and welcome!

That's just a spacer created by the the installer when it partitioned your HDD/SSD and again, nothing to worry about.

I suggest that you create an MX Linux diary where you can write down all the things that bother you along with their explanations as you encounter them. It's something we all do because we recognize that there is no way we will remember all the minutiae of this operating system.

Mike,

Nothing to worry about. Neither that file nor the unallocated space (that's done by GParted (or such programs)) for aligning etc.

Also your current system is already as I would suggest: either home and root (main) partitions are encrypted (you did well). No one will have access.

And also that thread (autologin) is about something else, not a kind of backdoor etc. (and will be fixed with the next release of MX User Manager... )

Verdict: "Don't Worry, Be Happy" :)

If you are having performance problems, we have found that laptops equipped with 5th generation Ryzen CPUs and chipsets generally run better when the kernel is upgraded to the liquorix 6.2.14. You can install the liquorix 6.2.14 kernel and headers via the Enabled Repos tab on MX Package Installer (MXPI). Once the install is complete, you can make it the default boot choice with the Boot Options utility in MX Tools and then reboot.

Thanks, Tim is (timkb4cq) is a member of our team and I think he originally worked on that app so the link remained pointed to his github page even though he's not updating the app anymore. I changed that URL in the code and in the next update that will point to the mx-linux github page as it should -- but it's not a critical update, so I won't push it till we have more important changes.

In the meantime firewall is enabled by default on MX-23 , you can also use that (from menu) to watch what's going on...

And (if you like only and btw.) for your data you can use Veracrypt (can install with 2 clicks with "MX Package Installer").. easy to use, strong.. first create an encrypted partition or "container" then put your important files & folders there. You can also use key files (say 1-2 of your favorite songs, or pictures, actually any file(s) ...) if you're afraid of forgetting the pw. etc... (You can also do these (other than the installation) when internet is off, if you like)

sorry been working on repairing my wwodstove for the winter. major part to swap and one stupid bolt that after 7 hrs still cannot get it off.

anyway linux generally is pretty safe and as they said firewall is on by default. if you were hacked with win or mac then that is another issue. generally be diligent and don;t do anything stupid and try not to do more eotic tweaking etc. than you are able to. Just enjoy.

i know that panic when something goes awry - generally my stupid accidnetal click or some such. crucial because i only run linux and i use these for everything. so they are crucial.

good luck and enjoy.

Maybe with something like Teamviewer. If you know someone you can trust you could give them access remotely. Hacking paranoia is not a helpdesk fix. Plus if you don't actually backup your data anything's possible at that point.
