Scanner package missing?
Re: Scanner package missing?
But isn't Linux Mint using like a generic driver ? It detected 2 scanners on the network without having to do anything. A Brother and the Xerox and they both work. Stevo said to show him how it's doing it and it's WSD protocol.
Re: Scanner package missing?
We have no idea what Mint is using as a driver. Linux Mint is a SystemD based Ubuntu child distro and totally different from MX. What you need to do is launch Mint and then in a terminal enter the commandtekkaman wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 11:59 am But isn't Linux Mint using like a generic driver ? Code: Select all
sane-find-scanner

HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram

Re: Scanner package missing?
I just wanted to add that WSD is a mechanism that allows devices to easily communicate over a network. It is not a driver.

Re: Scanner package missing?
I just run the command but it doesn't seem to list anything network related.
Xerox website has a debian package but it seems it's only for printing. They have nothing for scanning. Which is why I didn't think to request for a package. I thought Mint was using some generic driver.
Code: Select all
To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
See "man sudo_root" for details.
mint@mint:~$ sudo ~sane-find-scanner~
sudo: ~sane-find-scanner~: command not found
mint@mint:~$ sudo sane-find-scanner
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
# No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel driver for your USB host controller and have setup
# the USB system correctly. See man sane-usb for details.
# Not checking for parallel port scanners.
# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.
mint@mint:~$

Here's the link again:
https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/content/109061
and it clearly says that it's a scan driver for Linux.
and here is where you place your package request:
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewforum.php?f=147
remember to include the link to the Xerox site in your request.

I'm talking about this: https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/pro ... tributeId=
The link you posted is for another model. The Xerox in the office is Workcentre 4265 the link you posted is for Xerox WorkCentre 5020 and 5016
I don't know what driver Mint is using and I don't know how to check.

First, I'm sorry that I mislead you.
Now, in Mint with the Workcentre set up and ready to go, open a terminal session and issue this command: lswh
Hopefully it will detect your Workcentre and the drivers in use. Then you should post that info here.

Re: Scanner package missing?
In researching the lshw command for you, I also saw that Mint now defaults to driverless printing / scanning. Here's a tutorial, written by Duliwi, on how to implement driverless printing in MX:
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... s+printing
This could explain why your Workcentre scanner woks in Mint but not presently in MX.

Re: Scanner package missing?
I tried running the command but it says the following:
Code: Select all
mint@mint:~$ lswh
Command 'lswh' not found, did you mean:
command 'lsw' from deb suckless-tools (46-1)
command 'lshw' from deb lshw (02.19.git.2021.06.19.996aaad9c7-2build1)
command 'lswm' from deb lswm (0.6.91-2ubuntu1)
command 'lsh' from deb lsh-client (2.1-13)
Try: sudo apt install <deb name>
Re: Scanner package missing?
A brief search indicates that WSD network scanning requires the sane-airscan package to be installed.
Give that a try - it's in the main repos.
