Evolution

Hello,
I have installed Evolution as usual. It looks fine, It works fine but It does not receive emails and I cannot send sent emails. No error message, nothing. It simple does not receive and send emails. What can I do to fix this?

My best guess is that the incoming and outgoing server requirements have changed since the last time you set up Evolution. You will have to go to the site of your email provider and determine what changes you have to make in Evolution's configuration.

I don't think so. I have reinstalled it from a former bachup file. I have checked the configuration for sending and receiving. Everything is okay.
to have email access I have installed Thunderbird and it works. But I think Evolution is better.

I already have checked everything and the send and receive button is not grayed out. I used now your MX Package Installer. It showed Evolution was not installed. So I have installed it again. Now I get the message in Evolution that there are new emails. But the emails do not appear in the inbox.

Google mail per chance? They have changed their mail pop authorization things.

I had a very similar problem with thunderbird. I installed the flatpak version and it works fine now. Uninstall evolution and install the flatpak version and re-import your backup.

I have uninstalled Evolution completley and installed it new using the MX Package Manager. Then I restored Evolution from a backup file. This file was made by Evolution under Kubuntu. Everything still the same. I get the message about new emails. But they do not appear in the inbox.

Quick System Info, run it from the menu, copy for the forum, paste in a reply.

QSI = Quick System Info and it can be found in MX Tools. After you run the utility, click copy at the bottom of the report and then paste here in a new post here in your thread. There's no need to edit the report, as it is already formatted for use here in the forum.
edited to add that Eadwine Rose beat me to it. She obviously types faster than I do.

At this point, here's what I think you should do:
Completely uninstall Evolution including any settings. Now re-install Evolution, but this time do not import your data and settings from your back-up; instead, you should manually configure Evolution. Does it work as it should, now?

I could not go to bed unless trying your suggestion: Evolution works! I can receive and send mails. But how can I get back all my old mails back into Evolution? When I reinstall the backup file, will it alter the ability to receive and send mails? Or will this reinstall only add what is not yet there?

Here's what you have to do prior to importing your backup.
In your working install of Evolution, right click on your account name IE
xxxxxx@emailprovider.com, then select Properties at the bottom of the list. In the Account Editor that appears on the screen, there are seven categories listed vertically on the left hand side. The categories, in descending order are: Identity, Receiving Email, Receiving Options, Sending Email, Defaults, Composing Messages, and Security. Click on each category in turn and copy down the configuration information. Once this is complete, you can go ahead and import your data. If after importing your data, Evolution fails to operate properly, you are going to have to access the Account Editor again and change the settings to match what you previously copied down.

The restoring of the backup file overwrites everything and nothing is going anymore, no receiving and no sending. I found two minor mistakes. Evolution is now sending emails (controlled by Thunderbird) but it does not show the sent email in the Sent folder. I created an new folder for sent emails and they appear there - good. But the problem in receiving emails I could not fix. Do you still have an idea?
I guess I have to go with Thunderbird now and Evolution is only to have the old emails available if needed.

Do not restore the backup file. Create a clean new profile. Enter your pop data there, see if it works.

Well, we now know that everything is not the same. The devs at Kubuntu have obviously modified their version of Evolution in such a manner, that its data exports are no longer compatible with the standard version. In your situation, where you need access to your old emails, going forward with Thunderbird is probably the best outcome for a bad situation.
