Note that any configuration changes you may have made will be lost. If it doesn't fix things, delete the new .mozilla folder that will have been created, and restore the old one to its original name.

Hello Chris

now I have started to follow your advice. Thank you for giving these details.
As I mentioned before I did remove all partitions including the 'home', however had to make many tries for re-installation and did not in every run remove all partitions.
I did not find a .mozilla file. btw should it be named .mozilla or .mozilla. ? I had checked for hidden files.
I did find a hidden .mozilla folder under /home/[username]/ Is that what you mean?
You have mentioned a new and an old version of .mozilla folder. Do you mean after and before upgrade? The system is upgraded now. So my understanding is that I have no access to the old version ... unless I do another complete installation of mx-linux, save the old version, do the upgrade and then do the delete of the new version and the restore of the old .mozilla folder.
Is my understanding correct?

after upgrade the system few days ago, the welcome mini tool offers 2 tabs: WELCOME and ÜBER (in english probably ABOUT). Go to ABOUT. The first 2 lines give info about:
mx version MX-19.4 desktop MX-19.4_x64 patito feo March 31 2021
debian version 10.12 supported until: June 2022
This is the screenshot referred to:

Does anyone see the confusion? The following are the dates that I have seen stating when MX-19 support ends (I presume this means Long Term Support [LTS]), listed from soonest to latest:
I believe the correct date is 30 June 2024.

good eye. I think that info was originally set up before buster was officially adopted into the LTS. I'll update that. thanks!

Hello, Stephan.

I am not quite sure why the welcome => about MX 19.4 screen may be of any relevance with respect to your problem: Firefox 103.x.x refuses to start up.
Anyway, here is what the About box tells about MX Linux 19.4 and its planned end of supported life:

One more question:
Before trying to start up Firefox, have you checked that no more (undead) firefox process existed in the process list?
