We are just trying to help. As others helped you gave more detail which helps us help you. Yes for us, manual install can mean quite a few different ways to install software. Good luck and welcome to the Linux world. Hope you enjoy MX LINUX!cbiweb wrote: Thu May 19, 2022 12:35 pmEven though the very first words of my post was "Software that's not in the packager manager...".pianokeyjoe wrote: Thu May 19, 2022 11:45 amThe best way to install or uninstall software is synaptic package manager(especially for uninstalling software!!). If you only want to install software you have the choice of MX package manager AND synaptic Package manager. If you are more DOS/command line saavy, then apt command is best for installing and removing software. Simply deleting the app folders will break your system.cbiweb wrote: Thu May 19, 2022 10:57 am Software that's not in the packager manager, that I had to manually install, what's the procedure to uninstall it?
I'm not seeing any type of uninstall options, so do I simply delete the folders that contain the app?
IF the software you install is a FLATPAK or SNAP or APPIMAGE then usually those you just delete the app and folder and related files, like in Ubuntu. BUT, may be best to use MXpackage manager under flatpak tab to install and remove the software. Linux is not MacOS classic where you can just delete an app by deleting the app folder and related library files.![]()

Since you are a newcomer to MX and Linux, please note that for Linux, the FIRST port of call for installing programs should be the repos of YOUR OWN DISTRO. This is very different from Windows. Do not bring that practice from Windows (of downloading exe files from all over the place and running them) into the way you run Linux.
Installing deb files from external sources or unpacking a foreign tarball or enabling a third party repo should be the last resort. So please use MX Packageinstaller and search for the applications you want FIRST. There are so many tabs in MXPI you can explore and search for apps before you even look elsewhere.

Yes, totally understand that, and was one of the very first things I learned on my own (I do click around and research something before posting, since it's a bother to ask about stuff that can be easily be Googled. I also realize that 99% of users don't do that, though).asqwerth wrote: Thu May 19, 2022 10:55 pm Since you are a newcomer to MX and Linux, please note that for Linux, the FIRST port of call for installing programs should be the repos of YOUR OWN DISTRO. However, some things simply aren't in any repos, so I have no choice but to get them from the original source. (i.e. Firefox Developer Edition). I also found that Googling for help with a number of Linux questions tends to lead one down the wrong path, for various reasons. So after doing what I can to resolve an issue on my own, I come here.

Why do you want Firefox Developer Edition? Are you a developer?

Probably because they think you don't need it.cbiweb wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 12:37 pmLOL - I really don't get why people keep asking me that.anticapitalista wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 12:17 pm Why do you want Firefox Developer Edition? Are you a developer?
Any Developer Edition of software is meant to help the developer(s) not the users.

Which begs the question of why would they think I don't need it? If it's something I use, then there's a very good chance I'm a developer.anticapitalista wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 12:55 pm Probably because they think you don't need it.

How many non-developers use developer versions of software?
The question is just... odd...

You have said in many of your posts that you are a newbie to linux.
I really find it strange that such a 'linux noob' would want to install non-noob friendly software.
But, do as you please.

That makes zero sense.anticapitalista wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 4:08 pm You have said in many of your posts that you are a newbie to linux.

Being new to Linux has no relation to wanting to use developer edition software.
I've used FF Dev Edition for years on Windows. Why is it such an alien thing to want to use it on Linux or any other OS I run?
