Stuck at acpi error after grub
Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
Thank you all for taking the time to help me out.
I am never able to see my fan speeds. Does the OS manage the Fan Speeds or is it the BIOS? I was not able to find a particular fan speed control in the bios only the Fan Speed and a graph comparing the fan speed and CPU temp.
nothing about the GPU Fans. Windows although has Armoury Crate for controlling CPU & GPU speed as well as the speed of their fans does linux do the same? Like does linux automatically adjust CPU ghz etc as per usage because my laptop CPU goes upto 4.5 ghz on turbo mode.
Please help me. Also apologies if the questions come off as too sily...

Hello Huckelberry Finn
First of all Thanks a TONNNN!!
So I shoudn't be concerned about acpi errors, right?
Also should I reinstall MX LINUX to the ahs version or is there a way to upgrade my current installation?

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
Meanwhile, I edited the post above ... At least for now: On mine (HP) there was an option as "always on" or "when needed" .. I changed it to the latter on Bios ...

And "reinstall" ..
Again: You can simply copy-paste your home folder before that, if you like ..
Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
I actually don’t have any files on Linux rn. So I’ll just install the AHS version.
Also will Linux will manage my fan and cpu speeds as per usage automatically or will it use it always at a high speed? Coz high is 4.5 ghz and the fan is throwing real hot air rn and I have just started using the laptop like 1hr ago max...
Also can I install Nvidia gpu drivers on fresh install wo problems.?

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
It also changes according to the kernel. The AHS has a more recent kernel: 5.6 (and more appropriate for yours) ...
Yes. But in case of issues it's not difficult to remove it (Nvidia). Just select the "stable" one when it asks during installation.. (The "newest" is from the "test" repo).

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
If you run into the same acpi lockup on booting the AHS version and or after installing the Nvidia driver, you might need to use a boot tweak in GRUB. We can work that once you let us know if you still have issues. It is very easy to make it permanent so you don’t have to worry about it as often.
That GitHub link talks about the issue with some laptops and people list and talk about what is needed for each type of laptop.
If the acpi error does or doesn’t come up when booting AHS, it may only affect your laptop once you install the Nvidia driver. Which Huckleberry Finn mentioned uses Bumblebee to use the both Intel and Nvidia GPUs when you want.

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
You CPU and GPU fans should be controlled by Linux perfectly fine without any need to do anything. Please let us know if the issue continues though.
Did the updates install the first time you ran updates?
Does MX updater show any updates still?
