Web Browsers
Re: Web Browsers
Slimjet can be easily installed in MX PI. Don't know what the heck the libpango problem is, since I've never had it.
What start page are you using that makes our Chromium use so much CPU? If I set it on a static page like these forums, it uses maybe 1% and the CPU stays at its lowest speed.

Re: Web Browsers
Chromium with one tab opened to a blank google.com page is idling at 25%-35% cpu constantly.
With one tab opened to a static page (debian.org) chromium idles at 0%-2%.
Palemoon idles at 0.3%-1% whether it's on google.com or debian.org.
Firefox idles at 2%-3% on google.com and 0.3%-2% on debian.org.
google.com is the default start page for chromium.

Re: Web Browsers
Brave
Waterfox Classic
Firefox
Midori
Qupzilla
SeaMonkey
Netsurf
Depending on what I feel like at the time as to which one I use, mostly Brave I guess if I had to pick one

Re: Web Browsers
Desktop: Pale Moon for 99% of all sites. Vivaldi for WebRTC stuff and the odd site that wouldn't work in Pale Moon.
Android: Vivaldi all the way. Much better than Firefox, IMHO.

Re: Web Browsers
Debian's firefox-esr package because it's compiled with --enable-alsa, it strips out the user studies (embedded spyware), it's supported by Debian's Security Team and so receives any bug fixes *very* quicky and it doesn't include all the latest new bugs, sorry, features that are present in the non-ESR version.

Re: Web Browsers
So at risk of this question previously being asked (I could not find any reference thereto) if one has a stock standard MX install (i.e., no ancillary repos beyond the initial setup) does one have to add in another repo in order to install such browsers as you've mentioned. I'd rather do it through the repos than download and install brave or another browser.
Re: Web Browsers
MX Package Installer, Popular Applications tab, Browsers section is the best place to shop for alternative web browsers. If additional repos are needed they'll be added. They were checked and vetted by the MX packaging team so they're safe. Less popular browsers may be able to be found in the stable repo tab.linexer2016 wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 6:48 amSo at risk of this question previously being asked (I could not find any reference thereto) if one has a stock standard MX install (i.e., no ancillary repos beyond the initial setup) does one have to add in another repo in order to install such browsers as you've mentioned. Re: Web Browsers
Sorry Steveo, I should have mentioned I was testing in Siduction not MX. The libpango issue I refer to is in the versioning syntax. It's the third package(I think) I've come across. Installed is libpango-1..... the packages depend on libpango1.......(no dash) and will fail to install. I just edit the depends in the control file to get it to install. It's like just a sid thing.Stevo wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 12:34 am Slimjet can be easily installed in MX PI. Don't know what the heck the libpango problem is, since I've never had it.

As far as Chromium it's, as installed. I opened it for the first time and let it idle for a bit then checked the usage. Seems this this the average usage for anything Chromium/Chrome based as they all seem about the same.
Re: Web Browsers
I use Firefox. Comparing to Chrome, it has much more configureation possibilities
