I dunno, I just installed MX-Linux, after I bought the machine to be able to dual-boot with windows. xD
I have no idea why it would choose anything that comes out of the box.
It has worked pretty well so far, but the VLC thing was acting up on a bunch of old videos I decided to watch.

Stevo wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2019 8:48 pm The system info ought say that the Intel GPU is still providing the display, not the Nvidia one, if Bumblebee is working correctly. If Bumblebee is working, you should be able to see a difference between

Code: Select all

glxspheres64
and

Code: Select all

optirun glxspheres64
where the second command has the Nvidia GPU doing the 3D acceleration.

The Intel GPU does need i965-va-driver installed to provide va-api acceleration, and like posted above, you can't mix and match its components from the main and test repo and expect it to keep working. Hopefully, you haven't done that.
@Stevo: doesn't bumblebee require the Nvidia driver? Or will it work with nouveau too? (It's been so long since I had a dual-video notebook that I've forgotten.)
There is a bumblebee-nouveau that is supposed to work with the free driver, but the MX Installer installs bumblebee-nvidia to go with the proprietary driver, since most users seem to want that. The instructions for bumblee-nouveau are in the Debian wiki, though.

Do you have the same problem with other players, such as mpv, SMPlayer, or QMPlay2? The latter two also use Qt 5 to provide the GUI, as does VLC.

mpv Work\ for\ It\ \(#237\ of\ 365\).mp4
Playing: Work for It (#237 of 365).mp4
(+) Video --vid=1 (*) (h264 640x352 29.970fps)
(+) Audio --aid=1 --alang=und (*) (aac 2ch 44100Hz)
AO: [pulse] 44100Hz stereo 2ch float
VO: [opengl] 640x352 yuv420p
AV: 00:00:24 / 00:03:20 (12%) A-V: 0.000
Seem to work fine. (just installed it, so nice to have)

All the others work also, yet as I said, after the Nvidia install, I've been unable to break VLC.

I've tried to start over 100 different videos from my archive of vids, avi/flv/mpg etc,
nothing creates the problem anymore.

So thanks for the Nvidia tip, it seems to have somehow fixed whatever was wrong.
