MX + KDE + GNU Guix = A marriage made in heaven

dude, unless you run your MX with GNU Guix, you're only half-way there.

Soon I will upload an MX-KDE .ISO respin with GNU Guix fully functional and distractions removed. This reproducible build system will be quite a gas! :lion:

If you cannot wait, look here: https://github.com/pjotrp/guix-notes/bl ... NSTALL.org

guix just rocks :exclamation:

Explain why guix package manager is so useful to MX and ask (nicely) if our package team can create a deb package for it. Or are you saving it for your own respin?

Guix.deb package

mate, a guix.deb package would be truely awesome. I guess it can be done. Please make sure the locale business is being taken care of, since with the binary guix install there are missing symlinks under $HOME/.guix... , I believe. If one can install a guix package without getting the dreaded "locale warning" ("cannot set locale") all is fine,

e.g.

guix package -i hello

with no warning about some locale problem.

to find out about the usefulness of Guix please allow me to refer the the Guix homepage. It sure is a great leap forward when it comes to have reproducible builds, where the compiled binary program will have the exact same CRC for everyone who builds from a certain source-code.

The TorBrowser people had to struggle very hard to achieve this without guix. It involved a Ubuntu VM and all sorts of tedious operations. Guix just makes it so much easier!

Are you getting close to uploading this? If not do you have an approximate timeline?

But you don't upload the installation? You upload the iso? I am sure you made backups?

Yeah, new kernels may need some new firmware for some devices. Do any missing firmware messages show up in dmesg output?

with so many of my threads closed and and all the threats I received, I doubt I will announce the respin in this forum. Guix works nicely in my MX-KDE install.

There are many other forums where a release announcement will be greeted commensurate. Once I quit here, I will NEVER look back.

Threats, huh? And threads closed without reason? Wow, what a terrible place!

Threads are closed by moderators when they go wildly off topic, or when angry and paranoid posts are made--so guess what: I'm closing this thread.

It's really simple: if you want to be a member of this Community, you have to follow the posted Rules. If you repeatedly don't follow them, then you will no longer be a member of this Community. The choice is yours.
