A very short explanation about the practical difference between a separate home partition and home in root could be useful.
Have only found one example where home in the root partition is a better choice, that's when you're using apps that produce very large temporary files. /var/tmp can fill up pretty fast and there's no way to make it larger with a separate home. Must be other pros and cons?

I started with a separate /home partition and only changed when I began to try multiple distros. A shared /home risked conflicts in settings and when I got to 8 installed distros, I ran out of partitions. I have three with separate /home partitions. And three with /home in the /root partition. The latter are testing and familiarization installs.
