KDE Crash Handler - Backtrace files?

#1 Post by Solon »

Hi guys!

This is NOT a serious issue, since I do not have an actual problem (I think).

Here is what happened: I was just starting up, and I manually accessed the "Discovery" Update button from the 'extra' bottom bar panel under the (^). Then nothing happened... forever. Finally, I realized that it was not working and I went down to the bottom bar and saw a window tab with the name: Discover -- The KDE Crash Handler.

So I clicked on it and started through the process, since reporting it may be helpful. At one point it asked if the crash had repeated. So I went back and tried again, and Discovery worked fine. In short, I do NOT have a real problem. But I want to be helpful, so after my updates were finished, I closed Discovery and went back to the reporting sequence for KDE.

I got to one window where it asked me to do a "Backtrace". So I clicked on the button which said: "Show backtrace content". And the following showed up in a little window:
Application: Discover (plasma-discover), signal: Segmentation fault

[KCrash Handler]
#4 0x00007f6fbe39fe9e in QV4::QObjectWrapper::wrap_slowPath(QV4::ExecutionEngine*, QObject*) () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
#5 0x00007f6fbe3219d3 in QV4::ExecutionEngine::metaTypeToJS(int, void const*) () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
#6 0x00007f6fbe32138a in QV4::ExecutionEngine::fromVariant(QVariant const&) () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
#7 0x00007f6fbe3a043b in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
#8 0x00007f6f59f6bbf6 in ?? ()
#9 0x0000000000000000 in ?? ()
[Inferior 1 (process 5913) detached]
Then a popup window appeared over everything, it said: "Not Sufficiently Useful" on the Header, and underneath:
"The packages containing debug information for the following application and libraries are missing:"
  • /usr/bin/plasma-discover
  • /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
  • /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
  • /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
  • /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Qml.so.5
That is no typo. The final 4 in a row are exactly the same!

The implication was that I needed to have 'Advanced' debugging files on my computer in order to create a proper backtrace!

So, I went out to MXPI and looked for the first one (/lib/x86...) and it never appeared under any directory.

I also did a more general search, under "KDE", which brought up several offerings, but nothing useful. Then just looked under "debug", which also gave me nothing useful.
(This sort of thing has never happened to me before.)

Question: Does MX have advanced "Backtrace" files for KDE in the MXPI? And if so, where are they and should I download them just in case something like this happens again, so I can be a good Linux 'citizen' and send off a report?

Sorry to bother you guys, as this is very small beer. However I am curious, and like to assist whenever I can. Also, if there are "Advanced" debugging features for KDE, perhaps this should be incorporated into future MX updates... Just saying. Here's my Quick Info:
