Can't install audacious-dev

#1 Post by rambo919 »

Have to install it to compile a plugin for wem playback https://github.com/vgmstream/vgmstream/ ... c/BUILD.md

If I actually try to downgrade any of the packages it depends upon to the versions it wants apt wants to remove 200 or so other packages.

Can this be resolved or should I make other plans? Dunno if I did something in the past to cause this.

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-get install audacious-dev

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

You are trying to build/install software for a plain bookworm system and it is wanting to install software from the backports. First thing to try is disabling the backports repository then apt update and try the install of the -dev package again. With the backports enabled you actually get software newer than the unstable version according to the packages page from Debian.

https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... ection=all

Edit: Did not notice that was only for riscv64 software still try the disabling anyways.

Usually aptitude on the command line can do a more surgical downgrade of the backports packages...make sure you go through its multiple options.

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install audacious-dev
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Interesting, some ignorance dispelled on my part.... which feels odd after so many years.

Thanks

Yes... oddly its compromise involved uninstalling the 6.1 kernel.... not a problem because I only had it as a backup.

What the heck? Can you reinstall that kernel now, or is it still one or the other?

I have the test repo audacious installed on my AHS working install, without the dev package available as an experiment, and all aptitude wants to do for me is to downgrade to the Bookworm audacious to match. So it must have something to do with those bookworm-backports libraries.

BTW, our test repo audacious packages, like almost all my builds, are built in clean "vanilla" Bookworm schroots using pbuilder or sbuild. I would think backports does the same thing.

Yeah it re-installed... complained about vhba (had to do busywork I can only half remember to get it working at some point, has it's own thread here) but it's just a backup so don't care atm. Just weird that a package demands the uninstallation of a kernel that's not even currently running..... apt bug fixed in DB13 probably.

I admit I have done so many experimental things to this install over the years that it might have the equivalent of windows rot.
