Thunar Root Password Change?

#1 Post by JmaCWQ »

Hello All,

I'm wanting to change the password used when opening a root Thunar instance by the right click - Open root Thunar here command from a Thunar window.
It's been years since I set up my current install and I think I gave my user (home) and the root accounts the same password when first installing it.

I first tried MX User Manager to change the root password, but it appears to do nothing even though it says successful after clicking Apply.
Tried the Terminal which also didn't appear to change anything.
I've managed to change the root password using the Grub method explained here - viewtopic.php?p=819046#p819046, via the link at the bottom of the article for MX-21.
Now I can logout, select Other and login to the root account ok with the new password.

However, when I'm using my regular account and right click in a Thunar window > Open root Thunar here, the required password remains unchanged and the new root password will not work.
I guess I'm missing or not understanding something, hours searching the web has resulted in nothing useful.
Can this be done, so when in my regular user account and I right click in a Thunar window and go Open root Thunar here, it uses the changed root password?

Thanks

I do believe yhe prompt is asking for whatever password is set up for authentication. By default that is the user/sudo password. You can change the mechanism in mx-tweak kn the last tab if you have a root account set up and unlocked.
