They need to compile a list of all languages for this phrase.
They don't need or want a description of the program, that is not what this thread is all about. I hope you understand.
Where will each of the phrases be used?

I understand that the texts will be used in the ".desktop" file, which is used to display the text in menus and can also be found by programs like Rofi, AppSelect, Albert, Kupfer, Ulauncher, etc.

The text in the entry "Comment[pt_BR]=" is usually displayed in the search results of the programs I mentioned above.

You could see every language translation was short and to the point, which is what is needed, or they all would be longer. Most likely this is for a pop up or some short descriptor thing.

Yours didn't match the rest of them so that is why it got adjusted. You cannot put a REALLY long text in there, as popup texts would end up really long.

Of course your work is appreciated, and you are free to provide the proper short and sweet bit that would match the length of the other texts provided.

As @Eadwine Rose pointed out, it is for the popup window when you highlight a programs entry.

Take Featherpad for instance. Here is the desktop file.

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]

GenericName=Text Editor
GenericName[cs]=Textový editor
GenericName[da]=Tekstredigering
GenericName[de]=Texteditor

MimeType=text/plain;application/x-zerosize;
Categories=Qt;Utility;TextEditor;
X-KDE-StartupNotify=false;
Keywords=Text;Editor;Plaintext;
Actions=new-window;standalone-window;
and this is what you would see when you highlight the file.

We just need the translations to the word "Simple GTK calendar". Nothing more.

Please keep all language to English in the English speaking threads.

@marcelocripe It has nothing to do with disrespecting your translation work, it just has to do with the limits of the text's context of use--as others have explained.

If you do not want your lengthy translation shortened, that's no problem because I'll just proceed without it. I need to get this finished and have no interest in any further discussion of this topic. Sorry.

Jerry3904, I have three more suggestions.

The third sentence is awful and completely meaningless.
Comment[pt_BR]=Calendário desenvolvido em GTK
It's unfortunate that you don't care about quality and prefer poorly written, incomplete, and meaningless texts.

People read and don't understand; when that happens, they never want to see GNU/Linux in front of them again.

I have already asked you to use English in the English sections of the forum. Please stop with the dual language posts.

It is you who doesn't understand what this thread is all about.

The dev just wants to know what the translation to "Simple GTK calendar" is in other languages.
Nothing more, so please stop trying to add stuff that is not needed.
