Debian 13 and Linux Mint 22.2
Debian 13 and Linux Mint 22.2
I installed Debian 13.0 Xfce in VirtualBox today. Whiskermenu has Menulibre and Mugshot populated in the Commands tab but Menulibre and Mugshot are not even installed.
I typed "cal" in the terminal and that isn't installed either. At least they have Xfce version 4.20.
Then I installed Linux Mint 22.2 Beta Xfce and was shocked to find that they are still on Xfce version 4.18.
I hope MX 25 does better than that.

I'm not seeing that on my Deb13 XFCE install to bare metal. Which menu are they under?BV206 wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 8:05 pm I installed Debian 13.0 Xfce in VirtualBox today. Whiskermenu has Menulibre and Mugshot populated in the Commands tab but Menulibre and Mugshot are not even installed.
I don't think it available anymore.I typed "cal" in the terminal and that isn't installed either. At least they have Xfce version 4.20.

Right click the whiskermenu panel icon
Properties
Commands tab
The bottom two items Edit Applications and Edit Profile.
cal was replaced by ncal and /usr/bin/cal should be a link to /usr/bin/ncal. I don't know how long ago that happened but cal always worked before. I don't know if Debian 13 dropped ncal on purpose. Maybe they need more room for Asian fonts and language inputs.

I'm not entirely familiar with XFCE, so I don't know where this icon is you speak of.BV206 wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 8:34 pm Right click the whiskermenu panel icon

I didn't realize I had to install a plugin. Is it the same for Debian 12 XFCE? Maybe holdovers?
I installed ncal and cal works. Maybe Debian figures users will just use the calendar function included with their office suite.cal was replaced by ncal and /usr/bin/cal should be a link to /usr/bin/ncal. It's only 60kB.Maybe they need more room for Asian fonts and language inputs.

It's the main application menu icon. Should be at the bottom left corner of the screen.siamhie wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 9:42 pm I'm not entirely familiar with XFCE, so I don't know where this icon is you speak of.

Re: Debian 13 and Linux Mint 22.2
I forgot, Debian uses Applications Menu by default. You have to go to Panel Preferences and add Whiskermenu to the panel and remove Applications Menu unless you want two menus.

Take a look at post #4. I made some corrections.BV206 wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:40 pm I forgot, Debian uses Applications Menu by default. You have to go to Panel Preferences and add Whiskermenu to the panel and remove Applications Menu unless you want two menus.

Re: Debian 13 and Linux Mint 22.2
MX packaging team packaged XFCE 4.20 themselves to be compatible with MX23, sometime after the first point release of MX23. Otherwise, Debian 12/Bookworm's XFCE version is still 4.18, I believe.BV206 wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 8:05 pm I installed Debian 13.0 Xfce in VirtualBox today. I don't think you need to worry about XFCE versions when it comes to MX. According to Stevo, XFCE devs make their DE easy to build on different bases, unlike Gnome or Plasma, where you generally need the latest gtk or Qt versions if you want the latest Gnome/Plasma.

Re: Debian 13 and Linux Mint 22.2
it is nice to see Debian Trixie - out in the wild, now.
:)
do remember - that the LinuxMint System - is supposed to be an fairly conservative system.
& which is why it's supposed to be fairly stable, too -
