Solved. Huge MX Logo apearing during start-up. How to stop it?

#1 Post by LateJunction »

During the last few days my MX PC shows a very large MX Logo, on a plain dark background, occupying about 40% of the width of my 40" monitor running at 3840 x 2160. This phase of start up - after grub has been 'processed' but before the xfce desktop is displayed - is taking about 30 seconds. Previously it took about 2 seconds. I assume it's my fault - I must have inadvertently fiddled with something; how do I revert to the previous, much faster start up procedure?

Some have reported performance hits when running SystemD. Try rebooting and at the grub screen select Advanced Options then select a standard kernel as the boot choice for the session. If this delay disappears, you can make the switch permanent with Boot Options in MX Tools.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

You can start by hitting esc at start up (as soon as the logo is on screen) and then reading / watching the terminal output... you should see a long lag between the last working startup process and then the next one which is most likely the issue. ( You may need to record the screen on your phone to see it all if its too fast.)

Also you can use the following in a terminal to see the boot logs.

Code: Select all

sudo more /var/log/boot.log.1

The files are listed as .1, .2, .3 set for previous boots

Check your date and time entries on the log(s) to see when the lag occurred.

Also, you can use the QSI tool, clicking on the left log displays it, with a time sequence. kern, xorg & syslog may help you find the culprit.

This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Moved to correct forum. Has nothing to do with installing MX Linux. Please be mindful where you post.

With respect I did spend some time thinking about which would be the most appropriate forum, bearing in mind I am no expert in such matters, I believed that I very much had an MX install issue, confusing 'install' with 'start'. So where then is the correct forum?

As I said.. I moved it, it is already in a better spot. When in doubt just put it in MX Help.

I dont see any RAID setup on your machine in QSI, but that is what the mdadm package is all about

Check your /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file and see if it is specifying an raid, and if it is, then you need to figure out why it is.

And if your not running any raid, you should be able to just remove mdadm and that should resolve this.
