@My_MX77 Just curious if you succeeded in booting your machine.
I had to jump through some hoops to get my Acer Tablet PC with eMMC (embedded multi-media card) storage (on-board 28GB ROM chip) to boot. I have notes on how I did it, if you want.
Those notes are basically a detailed version of what @fehlix says in his earlier post on this thread:
viewtopic.php?p=819562#p819562
Basically, it took me a while to navigate those UEFI/BIOS menus until I found the correct entry, and to name it appropriately.
And, yes, as @j2mcgreg mentioned, this all had to be done with an "Admin" account (with password) on the UEFI.
Let me know if you want my notes.

@operadude
It's been pointed out that the OP's laptop is equipped with a Snapdragon CPU which is not yet supported by MX. Booting it live or from an install is currently not possible.

HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Virgin Asus Vivobook not booting into USB (Linpus lite)
Thank you very much guys for your thoughts and prayers ...
Even with entering an admin password there is no possibility to choose an .efi file. What made matters worse: I cannot enter the bios anymore. My password got overwritten by I don't know what.
Before that happened I was lead into the windows configuration screen where I could open a terminal window. There I opened notepad and I could see the hard disk partitions but not the stick.
I will call Asus support tomorrow to hopefully fix the admin password and I will ask these guys how to boot from stick.
Yes, this laptop has a snapdragon processor and I read about the work that is being done in the linux world to adapt. As soon as I see a distro offering this feature I will install it. But until then I will be forced to start with windows and work with a linux VM.
Thanks again for your help and I will keep you informed about the process.
Take care ...

Re: Virgin Asus Vivobook not booting into USB (Linpus lite)
Make sure you use an ISO for the arm64 (aarch64) platform, not anything to do with x86-64, when support finally arrives. It'll probably be in some bleeding-edge distro.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

That's a very interesting remark. I have absolutely no clue why I should do so. Can you pls elaborate?Stevo wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 2:31 pm Make sure you use an ISO for the arm64 (aarch64) platform, not anything to do with x86-64, when support finally arrives. and, sorry I wasted the OP's time, and perhaps gave him false hope

Re: Virgin Asus Vivobook not booting into USB (Linpus lite)
OP apologizes himself to have wasted your time. OP has learned a lot and thanks for all the support.
The reset of the password could be done as follows:
- unplug laptop and press power button for 60 sec.
- plug in power and restart normal
- type in password and enjoy ...
Procedure functioned once. After that password was overwritten again. Second time reset password failed. All help and support of Asus referred to the old bios. There is definitely something very bad going on.
OP returns laptop as not usable to vendor and looks for a better solution.
OP disappears into nirwana and enjoys the view.

Re: Virgin Asus Vivobook not booting into USB (Linpus lite)
When shopping for your next laptop for Linux, I would recommend not bothering with Asus, they are one of the most Linux hostile makers.
If you have any trouble with the laptop with Linux, the first thing they will tell you is to reinstall Windows and check for the problem after that, if the problem is not there when using Windows they will consider their job done.

Re: Virgin Asus Vivobook not booting into USB (Linpus lite)
That's the term for the type of CPU that a Snapdragon is: a 64-bit ARM processor. Debian type distros use arm64 for it, while others like openSUSE use aarch64. They are still not as common as Intel/AMD CPUs, though Apples are all arm64 now.My_MX77 wrote: Mon May 19, 2025 1:53 amThat's a very interesting remark. I have absolutely no clue why I should do so. I, too, learned a lot from your thread; so, thanks
I like the whole "nirwana" thing.
Not sure I'll ever get there, but it's a good mind-set for trudging through the constantly changing digital landscape.
Keep in touch
