[SOVED] Color profiles are applied only for a few seconds (xfce)

#1 Post by -iak- »

Hello everybody. I am using MX 23 with a fresh install since January on my laptop. The color profile on the laptop was horrible since the beginning, while on my HDMI screen it worked perfectly until today. So now I have the same problem on both screens. Please note that yesterday I updated my system:

Code: Select all

 Upgraded 3 Packages
Now: I tried to apply some color profiles plenty of times to my laptop screen. The color profile I choose will take effect only for a few seconds and then back to dark-orangeish tint. I didn't care too much because I mainly use my computer plugged to my HDMI scree, but now I'm facing the same problem also with the external screen. It doesn't matter which method I use, colors change only for a moment. I tried with the xfce graphical tool, with colormgr and by launching xiccd from terminal (which should already be running from system startup): always the same result.

colormgr displays the correct profile as set as default, as it should be:

Code: Select all

colormgr device-get-default-profile /org/freedesktop/ColorManager/devices/xrandr_VY279HGE_S2LMQS040248_rawyak_1000
Object Path: /org/freedesktop/ColorManager/profiles/icc_3c6276bc2d9d1e8a126b13a73f81c179
Owner: root
Format: ColorSpace..
Title: Best RGB
Qualifier: RGB..
Type: display-device
Colorspace: rgb
Gamma Table: No
System Wide: Yes
Filename: /usr/share/color/icc/colord/BestRGB.icc
Profile ID: icc-3c6276bc2d9d1e8a126b13a73f81c179
Metadata: FILE_checksum=3c6276bc2d9d1e8a126b13a73f81c179
What's the problem? What can I do?

For now I'm undoing the last update if I can, and see if I can get back to decent colors for my external screen for now, but I'd love to have full control over both screens to be honest

We are going to need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I think that one important detail is that on the lightdm login screen the colors are ok, after the login they get messed up

Several of the Dell's I have worked on had this issue, and it was fixed on several by making sure that "Use Intel Driver instead of modesetting driver..." was checked . ( MX Tweak | Other tab )

A couple off dells were fixed only by the above tweak AND changing vblank to glx. (MX Tweak | composite tab)

And one machine ( Sorry, I dont recall the model - I think it was an inspiron though.) , was only ever fixed by either changing the compositor or adding the newest linux-firmware ( this was around last october, so linux-firmware of that date.)

Was it xiccd?
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
