supplying the /var/log/minstall.log file from an attempt is probably more valuable than trying to a different liveusb for the source.

Ok what's happening is that the blkdiscard command we use to clear partition tables is failing. why I do not know.

The auto-install isnt' going to work without some modification to the installer. Neither will manual partitioning inside the installer.

however, I think it will work if you do the partitioning manually before launching the installer, then use the "custom" option to choose partitions.

looking at the minstall.log file, you'll probably want the following:

1. 512 MB vfat partition, marked ESP,boot, for the UEFI boot stuff.
2. remainder partition you want, format ext4.

yes, as long as you used gparted to make the partitions. making them in the installer won't work, for the same reason the auto-install fails.
