I don't know about the current plasma, but in MX19, I did add KDE Standard to one of my MX XFCE installs. I can't recall exactly which, but eitherJerry3904 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 6:37 am ....
BTW: 1) I would think we might consider promoting this feature for MX-25--wouldn't surprise me if it were quite attractive. 2) I could also imagine that we consider offering (yet another) ISO with all three (x64 only) and a little app that makes final removal painless. @dolphin_oracle![]()
- the Qt theming (all our MX tools are Qt and there is a built in setting that makes Qt apps follow the gtk2 theming in the enabled gtk theme) in XFCE was messed up by Plasma's theme settings,
- or the gtk theming in XFCE was messed up by the Plasma settings for theming Gtk apps.
- Or maybe it was the settings in XFCE that messed up the themeing of gtk apps in Plasma.
So I never bothered to repeat this experiment of adding Plasma to a default XFCE install. Plus in the years since, Plasma desktop has gotten more systemd-reliant without the "mx-modified" stuff that dolphin adds [TO CLARIFY - I have MX-KDE installs, but I didn't know if installing the KDE metapackage onto MX XFCE would cause issues nowadays because of missing sysvinit fixes, etc].
On the other hand, I have found it quite doable to have gtk-based DE co-exist. =
XFCE + LXDE [Manjaro install #1)
XFCE + Budgie [Manjaro install #2).
Both started as pure XFCE installs.
I have also just installed Cosmic desktop [which is not Gtk but Rust-based] onto an Arch+Gnome install, and so far it's fine, because Cosmic even in its alpha state does a pretty good job of making gtk apps follow its own theming. Not so much Qt apps, so I theme the Qt apps I use with Kvantum.
