trying to install w64codecs from MXPI [Solved]

W64codecs date back to the 2000s, and provided exactly one ye olde RealPlayer proprietary and obsolete codec. There were hardly any 64-bit machines so long ago!

You'll notice that most of the others in your list have no installation candidate, meaning they don't exist in the repositories.

Ah okay, I didn't notice that at first, sorry.
Actually only gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly was missing, so I did that now, thanks again :-)

Those gstreamer plugins aren't used by most of our media players anyway...mpv, ffplay, vlc, etc. use ffmpeg libraries instead. You can do a reverse-depends for the -base plugins package to see which will need them in Synaptic or on the command line.

I believe deb multimedia has quit offering the w64codecs package. will remove from mxpi ...

You do realize that deb was built for debian stretch 8 years ago?

I also run very old FLV videos. And with the exception of Thunderbird and Firefox, I don't like using new software that has been improved for the worse.
