KeepassXC 2.7.7 AppImage

#1 Post by Kester »

Hi,

I've been using KeepassXC for some time and found it to be an excellent program. I was using the version in the MXrepos until yesterday. I saw there was an updated version recently released that included a few extras including browser integration which I thought might be useful so I downloaded the appimage of it. I also added the suggested Keepass extensions to my Firefox browser. Generally I can do what I did on the earlier version bar one which is a minor irritation, when I right click on a highlighted entry to get menu, the last but one entry 'Open URL' no longer works. Online searches have not helped me find a resolution - my setup appears to meet every suggested requirement although, admittedly, I do not fully understand the jargon of the helpsite.

I'd be interested to read of other members experience with this latest version and grateful for any suggestions particularly if explanations can be phrased in fairly basic, jargon free, terms.

Cheers.

This version is in the test repo tab. The browser integration is not new. But one of the big changes is the PassKeys integration.
I've not tried it yet but it looks promising. I'm waiting to see if someone finds any bugs before using it.
As PassKeys become the new norm, this will be a great implementation for Linux users.
Also not a new feature, but one of my favorite features is the ability to modify the URL entry to open a specific browser.
For example open Vivaldi for Google/Youtube, Brave for other web sites or even add other browsers so you can open yet a different one for banking.
It's a great password vault app.

@clampet
Thanks for your very useful input. I had not checked the test repo so, after your comments, I put the KeepassXC appimage to one side and installed the test repo version. It worked right away with no issues and the 'Open URL' menu option worked correctly. Probably due to some inadvertent action on my part when I was doing a few tweaks, the master password entry to the program stopped working with all options greyed out. However purging the installation and then reinstalling the program has resolved that issue and even with my tweaks it is working correctly. I certainly agree with you that KeypassXC is a great password vault app. I will mark this thread as 'Solved'. Perhaps the appimage I downloaded direct from the Keepass site has a bug as I did not do anything differently when I was running it.

@CatManDan
Thanks for your reassuring message.

Cheers

Yes, browser integration has been there for some time - years.
Autotype usually works nice too.

Is Open URL greyed-out or available when you hoover over, R-click?
Are you using Ctrl+Shift+U to open it or the R-click mentioned above?
Obvious, but is there a url address in the entry?

Good Luck!

I also added the latest "webext-keepassxc-browser" backport to the test repo at the same time as 2.7.7. It's not installed automatically, since not all users will want it.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
