Bluetooth Error - BR Connection Unknown

#1 Post by kloos »

Hi there

I use Bluetooth headphones every day, but today I am getting an error. MX says that they have connected, but my headphones don't confirm this. About 60 seconds later, they disconnect and I get a pop-up stating BR_Connection_Unknown. I have tried connecting a mouse and get the same issue. It connects, but doesn't work, then disconnects with the same error. The only thing that I have done differently today is plug in an HDMI monitor, but I did that yesterday without issue.

I have rebooted a few times and disconnected the monitor, but the issue is still there. I tried disconnecting the mount and reconnecting the Bluetooth, and this worked for about 2 minutes until it came up with the same error.

Any help please would be gratefully received as I live for listening to stuff through my headphones.
Thanks
Martin

Have you tried removing device from list then rescan ?

(You can also first remove it from list, then stop service , then start service ("MX Service Manager" from menu is easy to use btw.), rescan )

Thanks. I've tried that, but the same thing happens. MX says it's connected, but the device doesn't work, and then MX disconnects.

The Bluetooth adapter on that computer is known to fail. See here:
https://www.dell.com/community/en/conve ... a8de165aac

The main recommendation on that page is to update the bios, but, since that was already done in 2019 my advice to you is to replace the Bluetooth card with a known good one.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks j2. The card works fine. I booted another distro from USB and it connects and stays connected perfectly.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/winte ... c-8197.hcd

Code: Select all

sudo cp BCM20702A1-413c-8197.hcd /lib/firmware/brcm
Reboot.

(updating the initramfs before reboot would be even better: sudo update-initramfs -uk all )

(... After reboot: remove all previous items and try)

I tried your original option a second time and bingo, it worked. Thanks :-)
