Screen/monitor timeout not working

#1 Post by DaleB1970 »

MX 23.2 using kernel 6.1.0-17
Screen / monitors do not go blank/black after a period of inactivity. I have looked at power management utility and adjusted timing there. Still does not work after inactivity. What other info is needed here for help?

Update: Screensaver shows up right after licking "suspend" button, right before going into suspend mode. When I pushed the spacebar this morning, PC came alive with the screensaver active. Then I moved the mouse and the PW prompt showed up.

We are going to need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.
Forum Rules
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Right-click the battery icon on panel and uncheck the "presentation mode" if it's checked.

That xfce4-screensaver is known to be buggy (a real trouble) since a long time (and yes, sadly there ootb). No matter this solves it or not just get rid of it (even not just disable etc) . You can install light-locker (if you like) to lock screen:

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge xfce4-screensaver -y ; sudo apt update ; sudo apt install light-locker -y
Reboot.

I find just deleting xfce4-screensaver and using xfce4-power-manager-settings only solves this. At least on my systems. Assuming you don't want a screen saver, and just want monitor to go blank or bring brightness to 1%, etc

Thank you for both of those replies. Trying the light-locker.

That's just the "Power Manager" from menu :)

Using the Whisker Menu just search for "power", and the power manager should show up as an option. Open it and settings are there.
