Hi, responding to an old thread:
I tried to upgrade my MX-21 to the new MX-23.2, using Adrians guide (https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/upgradi ... installing).
Unfortunately, I cannot boot into Windows anymore, there is no such boot entry as I had before. My configuration: MBR with several partitions, 2 for Windows, several for Linux in extended partition.
Even with boot repair there is no entry for Windows anymore. During upgrade process some times the windows entry showed up, but not at the end. MX-23.2 is running (except for DKMS).
What to do?

QSI please.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Suggest to get hako's post into a new thread, as it is not much related to this tutorial topic.

First thing to check would be whether Windows boots ok,hako wrote: Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:55 pm Hi, responding to an old thread:

What to do?
with help of MX Live USB ( best use latest MX iso) and create a LiveUSB
On the LiveUSB Menu
-> Switch to Grub menu
and
select -> Boot Rescue
and further -> (search for) Windows boot loader.
If this still boots to windows, the chances are good
to get the GRUB menu entry fixed.
Also make sure you power down from Windows with no hibernate/fastboot (e.g hold the Shift-key when power off)
Re: Cannot boot into Windows anymore
I tried the MX-23.2 LiveUSB - Boot Rescue. Unfortunately, it cannot find a Windows Boot Loader. What would be the file name?
My Windows 10 is on partition 2, partition 1 has boot flag. Previously there were 2 Grub entries for Win10.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Cannot boot into Windows anymore
Have you tried as root user in terminal? update-grub

LiveUSB ->Boot Rescue->Windows Boot loader,hako wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 6:50 pm I tried the MX-23.2 LiveUSB - Boot Rescue. Unfortunately, it cannot find a Windows Boot Loader. What would be the file name?

would look for "/bootmgr" on the partiion the /Boot/BCD is located ( for MBR/BIOS installed Windows 10)
That's normally on the first System Reserverd partition. But it can also be on the next Windows partition.
The search on the Live GRUB Rescue menu would take the first it can find, which normally is the right one,
and would chainload the windows /bootmgr to load the Windows boot menu or straight into Windows.
Re: Cannot boot into Windows anymore
update-grub does not bring Windows back into the Grub menu.Have you tried as root user in terminal? update-grub
I tried again with LiveUSB ->Boot Rescue->Windows Boot loader, now with a different boot (from USB, not UEFI):
Now, it finds 2 bootloaders on drive (hd1,1)/bootmgr and on drive (hd1,2)/bootmgr. When I choose the one on the second partition, Windows starts (and occupies itself immediately with updates).
How to get it into the Grub menu?
