Boot Screen -> F4
Boot Screen -> F4
When do I need it?
What does it?
What is different, when I select "from=USB" compared with the selection "none"?
Does the "F4 -> form=USB" function work on its own or does it only make sense in combination with any function from "F5" or does it even only make sense to use it together with "F5 -> persist_static"?
Would appreciate some answer. Thank you.

Re: Boot Screen -> F4
From antiX docs:
That one is useful especially when a machine cannot boot directly from a usb stick but can with a CD/DVD etc.. Then it enables you to indirectly boot with the usb...
Code: Select all
from=usb ... Sets default booting device to a LiveUSB
Re: Boot Screen -> F4
@Charlie Brown got there first.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Boot Screen -> F4
Thank you.
OK I see it's documented in the Antix docs.
But I have not found the place here: https://mxlinux.org/?s=+form%3Dubs
I have not installed AntiX. Is there a link to the Doc of this issue? Or can we only see this doc, when we install Antix?

For what is the function "F4 -> from=USB" good for?
To search for USB's which contains a valid antiX Live system to further boot from.
To search only for USB's, e.g in case you boot from DVD,
and LiveSystem is loaded from DVD, but you want to boot further the linux system
and persistence files (if persistence was enabled) from faster USB instead.
Or, some PC don't boot the LiveSystem from USB or can't boot from USB directly. So you would be able with help of MX Linux on DVD do start booting to the LiveBoot Menu and further load the linux system from faster USB.
See above.
With "none" it looks for both DVD/CD and USB's. none is like not selecting anything with F4, but keep the builtin defaults.Duliwi wrote: Fri Jan 12, 2024 8:02 am What is different, when I select "from=USB" compared with the selection "none"?
Yes.
List of docs:
MX Linux MX Linux - Live Boot parameters
antiX Linux Live Boot parameters
antiX linux fan's Table of antiX (Live) Boot Parameters
Not not all antiX boot parameter are used on MX Linux Live System.
Any detailed question, let us know.
