Re: liquourix 6.6.8 kernel, virtual consoles

#11 Post by siamhie »

Looking at @Charlie Brown's QSI I noticed he had nosplash in his boot options, so I changed my boot options to nosplash and I can switch to tty's with no problem while booted to sys-v.

One other thing I noticed is with the splash option in my boot options, the screen is black (booted to sys-v) but if I press enter the tty eventually shows up and I can then switch back and forth between tty7 and tty1-6 and any tty shows up right away.

It seems to be something with the splash option and liquorix kernels 6.6.5? through the latest 6.6.8-2 versions.

and indeed just hitting enter on my "locked screen" brought up the console.

weird, but liveable.

My Goodness, in fact that was the first thing that came to my mind but I didn't say it as it might sound absurd or irrelevant. :D

Just btw. one more thing about that:

When decrypting on boot screen: if you use the splash (or if you completely remove it) then it does the "echo" (displays the *** ) .. No matter you hit the tab key or backspace first and no matter you edit the fstab and add parameters for that. The only way is nosplash. So, we can say "having no splash parameters and having a nosplash parameter are not exactly the same things".

From what I understand (feel free to correct me) is the splash/nosplash refers to the plymouth screen during boot. So having the nosplash option is the same thing as disabling the splash theme which removes the splash option in your boot options.

splash.jpg

One more thing. I tried several other splash themes and I had the same results with any tty not showing unless I press enter and wait for the tty screen to show.

I would bet the "issue" is only on UEFI machines and the framebuffer handling is involved.

It must have been around for a while now because I get the black VTs 1-6 with 6.5.11-3 and switching back to VT7 brings back the X-Session.

@Charlie Brown has a non UEFI machine but has the nosplash option in his boot options. (nosplash works for me on my UEFI machine)
I wonder if he would experience the same issue using the splash option instead?

Still everything's fine here. I can navigate bw. ttys and manually login ... cursor etc.. all fine:

Another note. This isn't relegated to the liquorix kernel. I'm experiencing it also with the xanmod kernel.

This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.
