AV Linux MX 21. Windwos effects

#1 Post by classic »

Hello to all the Linux Gurus here.
I am extremely new to Linux and I am using it on an old Sony Vajo laptop.
Works perfect.

There is just on thing i cant work with.
Its all the window effects.
Slowly appearing windows and slowly disappearing window and all that effects that it uses.
Slows down my work so much
Is there a way to just switch them off?

I would love any help.
All the best for your 2024 for you all:)

Thanks for any effort you my invest for me.

Hi,

I'm not on an AVL 21 box right now but this should work

The Window effects are handled by Compton, if you want to turn them off completely you can go to Menu--->Session and Startup and uncheck 'Compton' and logout or reboot and the effects should be switched off..

You can also configure, uncheck and adjust Compton settings without disabling it by using Menu-->Settings-->Window Effects

This is good to know. If Compton is on, the machine feels like it's getting sticky. Now that I disabled it everything works really lightning fast. I hope I remember this if the new upcoming AvLinux version has the same setting on by default.

In a media production machine, all unnecessary eye candy is only in the way of the creative process. It must be like a hammer. Every move you make is sure to be impressive. Unless you hit your own finger. :celebrate:

It's all very much perception, if you look at memory resource usage Compton isn't costing much at all. I enjoy some transitional fading of Windows and 'smoothness'. For the record the Enlightenment Desktop Environment in the next AV Linux release has great compositing features and is even more efficient on RAM than XFCE4+Compton but it also can be switched off if you don't like it..
