liquourix 6.6.8 kernel, virtual consoles

#1 Post by dolphin_oracle »

similar to the user in this thread viewtopic.php?t=78646&view=unread#unread

while running liquorix 6.6.8 kernel I cannot use function keys to switch to console under sysVinit. Actually, what I think is happening is the console is available but the screen doesn't change.

using the terminal commands to change vt (chvt)did not work either, yielding either a blank screen (vt1) or a screen that still shows the graphical desktop (vt2).

using the debian 6.6.8 kernel does not have this problem at all.

I sort of suspect a graphics problem, but not sure why the debian kernel would be unaffected if that is the case.

like the original report, I appear to have no problems under systemd.

issue may be present with other liquorix kernels, I've just never noticed before the user in the previous thread mentioned it.

#2 Post by Stevo »

I've just sent up a new revision of the 6.6.8 Liquorix, 6.6-10, but I don't know if that bug was the reason, or if the cgroups fix is related.

Code: Select all

  * implement stubs for current and legacy cgroup files
  * update version to 6.6.8-2
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Can confirm this is also happening with the latest liquorix kernel upgrade to 6.6.8-2 on 12/28/2023. (https://liquorix.net/)

This does NOT appear to happen in 6.4.9 liquorix on my test machines, but does happen on 6.5.9 and above.

And agree - it does actually appear to be changing to the console... just leaves the graphic on screen until you return.

I haven't tried the 6.6.8 but it's ok here with 6.6.5

The common point of your cards (at least the 1st cards) are being Intel (and AMD on siamhie's)

Mine is Nvidia with nouveau

(Just "maybe" ... )

(Had changed the vblank to off , but tried all now, still ok )

cut...
using the debian 6.6.8 kernel does not have this problem at all.
I sort of suspect a graphics problem, but not sure why the debian kernel would be unaffected if that is the case.
@dolphin_oracle I confirm that the problem not subsist in MX's 6.5.x ahs kernel(is Debians i guess).
I sort of suspect a graphics problem, ....
I guess those graphic problems are very delicate/sneaky in Linux. In fact actually I use the last Liquorix kernel available in repo because the guys here suggested try using them to solve a stalling problem during boot after a Restart in a freshly installed Libretto system. nomodeset resolves the hang but introduce other issues.All in all actually I dont'use Restart till stall problem resolution.
To get a better picture please take a look in that thread

Installed the 6.6.8 just now (just out of curiosity and of course to help bugfixing) "directly from Liquorix" ..

Still everything's fine here. I can navigate bw. ttys and manually login ... cursor etc.. all fine:
