System requirements

#1 Post by Manessa »

Hello everyone. I installed it. MX linux version of Open Box. But I don’t know if this distribution is right for me or not. I liked it. I have 8 GB of RAM, 234 ssd, and a 6 core processor. I have a question. What are the system requirements Mx linux?

I routinely run on a 2gb system with swap enabled. I would think 8gb is a good recommendation.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

It depends of course on what all you will be running at the same time, however 8gb typically is plenty to run MX. ( I from my VM's for many things with only 4gb and 1 or 2 processor cores.)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Where did you get this Openbox version of MX? That would be an unofficial respin (there are only official XFCE, KDE and Fluxbox versions) so there is no official support of what you installed by the MX team.

Please post your Quick System Info. You can find this in your application menu.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

I suspect the OP meant Fluxbox, but can't really fathom a "234 SSD". :confused: :confused:
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Yes, I meant Flax box. And I would like to clarify. I have 8 GB of RAM. I would like to ask. Is 8 GB enough for me to use Mx linux?

Just so you know, fluxbox was released 2001 and Openbox was released 2002. fluxbox is based on Blackbox 0.61.1 and Openbox based on Blackbox 0.65.0.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

8 GB is plenty.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.
