MX 19.4 xfce 64bit - Updater crashes after being in Synaptic and closing it

#1 Post by madmax25 »

Looks like I have several issues with the MX-Updater, currently.

when I open Synaptic using the tray icon of the Updater, look for something (no matter, what...) and close Synaptic again, the icon of the updater instantly disappears.

How can I fix this, please?

Maybe, I should add, that I'm using Compiz, not sure, if that's of any relevance.

EDIT:
Indeed, this issue seems to be related to Compiz, as it doesn't happen with the ordinary xfwm4 window manager.

Hmme, cannot reproduce. I just tested on a fairly actual MX-19.4 with compiz,
the green/black-wire updater icon would always be visible, regardless what actions in synaptic have been done.
In case the issue is reproduceable:

* Would the updater-icon show again, when restarting from the menu, or after logout/login?

* Anything shown on the command line, when (re-)starting mx-updater in terminal (as normal user) like this:

Code: Select all

apt-notifier

I just woke up (I've been sleeping all day long ;) ), booted my desktop computer and tried to crash the MX Updater again, but now it doesn't.

When it chrashes, I just have to restart it again from the Menu without logout/login.
In such a case, I just open the Menu, enter Updater and click MX Updater of the given suggestions.

Appearently, it doesn't happen always and I'm not sure when exactly it does.

I tried to close it manually and restart it in the terminal using this command:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/apt-notifier-unhide-Icon
which is the same as in the Menu, when I open Edit application
but I didn't get any output.

After that I went into Synaptic and closed it, but nothing happened, the icon was still there.
