Would be grateful for some thoughts on a recent problem. When I used to leave my laptop for a while, it used to go to a blank screen (to save power) that could be revived with the touch of my mouse pad. Now the blank screen is frozen. Nothing will wake it up. I have to power down the system and restart the laptop. I recently installed a flat pack called Teams for Linux, because I need to join a Teams meeting. Otherwise I have just installed updates as usual. I have set "Put to sleep after" and "Switch off after" to "Never", but I wanted to keep "Blank after" to save power. The side panel is getting messy - my Bluetooth icon is appearing twice and the Mx Welcome icon disappeared. I guess this is due to the powering down without shutting down properly, which I would like to avoid.

The screen saver in MX 21 was known to be very buggy and could cause this sort of behaviour. For most users, it wasn't enough to disable it, it needed to be uninstalled, Alternatively, you could do a reinstall and upgrade to MX 23 in the process.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks, I thought that might be the problem. I've found a few other features in Power Manger that I could disable - everything is turned off now. If that doesn't work, I'll uninstall the Power Manager as you suggest. I'm looking forward to MX 23, but I'll have to install that when I have a bit more time.

You misunderstood, You don't want to uninstall the complete Power Manager, just the XFCE Screensaver needs to go.

But that problematic xfce4-screensaver was on MX-19 and sadly now on 23 (no screensaver on MX-21).

Is it the same when on battery and plugged in ?

Had this problem, seems to have been cured by opening Xfce screensaver, turning it on, changing the "Regard the computer as idle after" setting to something daft like 600 mins, then switch it off again. screen then doesn't blank for ages
