Re: Qt5 Configuration Tool - not configured correctly
I'm surprised that tool is preinstalled on the KDE iso. I didn't realize that.
yes, the variable would not be normally set up since KDE is already qt and has its own theming.
You could add the enivornment variable to your ~/.bashrc, logout and login, but I have no idea how it will interact with KDE. Might be fine.

Re: Qt5 Configuration Tool - not configured correctly [Solved]
We removed it from the list of packages for 23.1any update on this ?
From "apt show qt5ct":What is this tool(QT5/QT6) exactlly for ?
This utility allows users to configure Qt5 settings (theme, font,
icons, etc.) under DE/WM without Qt integration.
.
Qt5ct will only be active on environments other than Plasma.
Default configuration have switch to disable running on Plasma.

Re: Qt5 Configuration Tool - not configured correctly
Sorry to revive an older solved post, but this is the identical question I have but the opposite DE.
I am rather confused about some gtk / qt issues at the moment so I apologize if I am missing something said.
I am using MX XFCE 23.0 ahs
First off it was said that this application has been removed from 23.1,
-Does this mean it is no longer available for XFCE users in the newest version of MX (23.1)?
-If it is then what application would be used for getting qt elements to work in XFCE DE?
If it is something different then this question might not matter because I plan on updating to 23.1 eventually anyways.
Honestly don't really like to have to use programs like this but just wanted to see if this could clean up a couple of GUI issues.
I recently installed this package from 23.0 MXPI
When I launched the program I see at the top the following message
When I clicked the "info" button it gives the following message
I believe I am correct that this has to do with the following application that is pre-installed with MX
qt5-gtk2-platformtheme
Gives the following description
Very confused what I should do?
Not sure how / where to change / add this environmental variable
I have seen people mention a couple of different options paths / files to put this in.
Will changing this variable mess up the above application qt5-gtk2-platformtheme from doing whatever it is designed / installed to achieve?
Does this application "qt5-gtk2-platformtheme" provide gtk2 themes for qt5 based applications? If so why would it not be gtk3 to match other XFCE?
Thank You

Re: Qt5 Configuration Tool - not configured correctly
the qt5ct was on the KDE iso, and had no purpose there, and so was removed. It has never been preinstalled on other isos. It is still available in the repo.advice1010 wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 2:55 pm Sorry to revive an older solved post, but this is the identical question I have but the opposite DE.

changing the value will disable the current Qt theme plugin (gtk2) in favor of qt5ct.
The gtk2 plugin assigns gtk2 themes to Qt5 applications. This only works if a chosen gtk theme includes gtk2 definitions. Some don't, but all of our default ones do.
There is no gtk3 plugin. There may be something down the road, but its not available on debian yet.

Debian's oddball naming conventions strike again! There is no gtk3 plugin. There may be something down the road, but its not available on debian yet.
I'm using mostly the KDE version of MX 23, but still have the xfce and several other desktops installed, with their configs inherited from at least three previous MX releases (preserving /home with reinstalls to get to a newer dist-release), so this may not work for you...but make sure you have qt5-gtk-platformtheme and qt6-gtk-platformtheme installed, which should make those Qt apps follow the system GTK+ 3 theming.

Re: Qt5 Configuration Tool - not configured correctly
@dolphin_oracle
Thank you very much for your response.
That is what sounded like, I just wanted to make sure you guys were not talking about removing it completely for some reason.
I have been trying to figure out a different issue which lead me to recently trying something out in the MX Plasma version (I think 23.0) and I thought it was strange to have an application to make qt look good in... qt :)
I have no idea about what the Plasma version supports but I also noticed that it contained "qt6ct" application as well. This one might be needed? but just wanted to point it out to you guys just in case it doesn't.
Ahh okay I tried both examples you gave, they both lead me to the same outcome, which was getting qt5ct to work. The first method you mentioned to try was easier if anyone else is looking to achieve this.
Also thank you for taking the time to lay it out in a step process, that was very helpful.
@Stevo
Thank you for your response.
Yeah, unless there is some behind the scenes reason, you are 100% right, why would they name this like that?
Toolkit numbers are going to continue to be added, so if there are packages that are created for specific toolkits, why not put the number of the toolkit? That is very confusing.
Thank you very much for your response.
