Macintosh File Sharing Via Samba
Below is based on MAC OS Monterey v 12.6 This is a work in progress that needs typo proofing and especially what is missing or wrong.
I don't own a Mac and being retired I never will. Several people asked me to add this to - MX Linux and Windows file sharing - How To
Also, I don't bruise easily so feedback can be nearly anything. I have no concept for how applicable the below is for older Mac's as in 5 years old and even 10 years old. I say that because I'm assuming Mac's last longer than the currently offered Windows PCs.
How to enable File Sharing
• Click on the Apple Menu and select "System Preferences".
• Click "Sharing".
• In the left column check ‘On’ in the "File Sharing" line. You should now see a green dot next to text that says "File Sharing On".
• Click "Options..." button on right.
• In the pop-up check "Share files and folders using SMB".
• Click "On" next to your account name.
• Below the "Share files and folder using SMB" section is a list of users on this Mac. Check "On" next to each user that you wish to allow sharing.
How to connect to Windows or Linux shares
The below assumes the share is on computer that has an IP address of 192.168.1.101.
• Click on the "Go" menu item.
• Click on "Connect to Server" (or Command-K).
• In the pop-up type: smb://192.168.1.101 in the server address box.
• Another pop-up listing shares appears.
• Select from the list the desired share.
• Click "OK" and the share will appear in Finder.

Re: Macintosh File Sharing Via Samba
MAC's have no problem browsing the network. Like Linux you can go to the network, browse and you will find all device that are broadcasting and can click on one and get to its shares if you have authentication.
I can get you exact steps a little later if you would like them.

*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Appreciate the thought, but I'll pass.CharlesV wrote: Fri Oct 13, 2023 11:15 am MAC's have no problem browsing the network. Like Linux you can go to the network, browse and you will find all device that are broadcasting and can click on one and get to its shares if you have authentication.

My thought is it would tempt non-techies to ask for browsing to return on the other two platforms. We both know its barely doable to impossible in *most* scenarios for those with above average Samba skills.
