Actually I don't mean every personal snapshot will be absolutely missing the icon, but the forum is really full of the same question and answer, even a simple search for minstall will give so many results.

( " Search found 1115 matches: minstall " . (Also there are deleted threads ...))

Yeah, it took a while to do it right, even now if somebody exclude ~/Desktop it won't be preserved, so I decided to do it in a different way using D_O's suggestion. I pushed a build on github, but won't have time to test till later on in the day.

@Adrian Just btw. I haven't checked whether it's already so, but if you like this may be even simpler (and will be easier to find it for everyone): Include it in Menu as an item.. just typing install in Whisker brings it ... Just an idea :)

(... no matter the icon creation works perfectly or not, that would be easy to find / guess where to look etc. )

@Adrian , @dolphin_oracle , @richb , @Charlie Brown , and everyone else:

Sorry it took me this long to respond!

First of all, I want everyone to understand that in no way did I mean to cause a Kerfuffle :exclamation:

Over the past 4 Glorious Years of using MX ( :celebrate: ), this is the first time in Dozens of LUMs (MX "Live" USBs, created from MX Snapshot) that I haven't seen the installer GUI icon on the desktop; and no, I did not exclude "Desktop" on the Personal Snapshot.

No Biggie, since the CLI "minstall" worked just as well for this Extremely Rare instance :exclamation:

Perhaps something went wrong with my LUM, which has happened before, given my use of cheap, generic, Micro SD cards (bought a huge batch years ago, and trying to use them up)!

I plan on buying a batch of brand-name, reputable, SD cards for my future LUMs.

Anyway...As I said earlier, this lack of GUI only occurred on my my most recent Fluxbox Live USB; whereas, my most recent Xfce and KDE Live USBs had the GUI this time around.

I will do some testing by making more Snapshots, perhaps starting from a fresh iso download, and using MX-LUM on "Good" USB/SD media, to see if I can replicate.

Will report back in a day or so.

My Forum Mantra (Self-Imposed-Commands):

1. Thou Shall Be Brief :exclamation:
2. Thou Shall Love Thy CLI :exclamation:
3. Thou Shall Trust in Thine Overlords :exclamation:

As for Team MX:

:hug: :hug: :hug:

And:

:yourock:

@Adrian , @dolphin_oracle , @Jerry3904 , @richb , and @Charlie Brown :

Looks like I AM THE ANOMALY :exclamation:

So, tweaked my Fluxbox install, made a (Personal) MX-Snapshot, & MX-LUM.

Here's the QSI from the new MX-Fluxbox, Live USB (Micro SD):

And, here's a screenshot snippet of the Live USB Desktop, with, Lo and Behold, the GUI installer !!!
quickshot_231012_155300.png
The GUI icon originally appeared on the left-hand side of the screen, but I simply moved it under the Conky date and time, for some context.

Just here to report that the lack of the installer GUI last time from my personal snapshot was an idiosyncrasy; but, like I said in the last post, not really an issue, once you know the CLI command, "sudo minstall".

Oh, and I was able to run the installer from the Desktop GUI: It works fine!

:cool:
