No GUI for Installer on MX-LIVE (Personal Snapshot)

#1 Post by operadude »

Hey All:

Wanting to do a re-build from a personal MX-Snapshot for my Fluxbox install.

All Checksums (on both the Snapshot and the LUM USB) are A.O.K. !!!

Booting into the Live session, all looks good, except there's no GUI installer on the Desktop!

I do remember that I can run the installer from CLI ("minstall").

First, here's my QSI (from the LIVE USB):

It would be nice to use the GUI, as I am accustomed to!

Any way of getting the GUI installer on the Desktop?

Yes, you remember correct:

Code: Select all

sudo minstall
or

Code: Select all

minstall-launcher
On personal snapshots it's a known issue that the icon is missing on desktop :)

@Charlie Brown :

"Good Grief" !!!!

Long time, no talk !

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah, ran "sudo minstall" and it brought-up the GUI, and the data integrity of the medium passed!

So, ready to rock and roll.

Love me my MX-Snapshot & MX-LUM :exclamation:

Hey, watch-out for that old "kicking the football trick"

Did not know that!

First time I haven't seen it!

Anyway...thanks again for the super-quick reply.

I can't really replicate that. I go to great length to copy the file to all the users ~/Desktop. Did you exclude ~/Desktop files by any chance? Then of course it's not there...

I have made a half dozen personal snapshots and the installer launcher has always been there.

hmmm never thought about it, but yeah, a personal snapshot with Desktop excluding would bypass both the auto copy we do on first login and the copy that snapshot does.

removing the file ~/.config/MX-Linux/xdg_check would enable the auto-copy on login of the basic set of desktop files (manual, faq, and if running live, the installer link) to the Desktop, desktop excluded or not.

Never thought of making a "personal" snapshot without the desktop.

I've always noticed the minstall.desktop file appears on the desktop when creating the snapshot and then disappears towards the end of the iso creation so what I did was simply copy the file itself to my 2nd hd so if for whatever reason I go to install the snapshot and the icon is missing, and I've had that issue, I know where it is.
