Permissions and Plex problem

#1 Post by andymx »

I installed Plex, but I have a problem with permissions. I cannot point Plex to my folder where I keep my videos etc. The Plex website states

Code: Select all

If no content at all is being found or you’re unable to see particular directories when trying to set up a library, you may be encountering permission issues (which prevent Plex from being allowed to see/access the content). The user account under which your Plex Media Server is running needs to have “permission” to access your content.
For Windows or OS X installs, this will almost always be the user account logged into the computer. For NAS- or Linux-based Plex Media Server installs, it will usually be the plex:plex user in a default install.
If using a network share, you need to ensure that the share is under a user that has appropriate access permissions.
The user account needs to have at least read and execute permission for the directories and content.

Tip!: You’ll want to make sure that not only the folder that contains the files but also the files themselves have the correct permissions. That includes new files you copy into the content location.
Unfortunately it doesn't say exactly how to change permissions. When I open MX User Manager I can only see one user, me. In the Group Membership tab is see a group plex. I enabled that for my user name, but I still cannot see my directories in the Plex Libraries server set up.

You didn't state the version of MX involved. Please post your QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum).

If its MX Linux 23 there is a likelihood the MX Firewall is blocking port 32400. An allow 'rule' would have to be added/entered in that Firewall.

MX User Manual section 4.5.1 applies. Not being a Plex user it is not known to me if that is the only port involved.

My problem in addition to what you mention is that I cannot browse to my media folders from the Plex UI in order to add media files to a Plex Library. I have to make the user plex have access to that folder, but I don't know how to do it.
