* DEB files (short for Debian, which MX Linux is based on)
* APPIMAGE files

These are probably the two most popular files if you are downloading the latest software from various websites. AppImageLauncher can be useful if running AppImage files on your system and you want the appimage app to be integrated into the system.

If the packages are installable by one of the methods that MXPI is capable of, the user doesn't really have to know about deb files at all.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Agree, but eventually you find you want the latest version of something.

That's a good idea. Is this the right forum? viewforum.php?f=55

The version of kdenlive on offer is very old, for example. So many other examples too.
