mx 23 heavy on ram usage
Re: mx 23 heavy on ram usage
As @wdscharff mentioned, the 6.0 kernels are about 100MB heavier than the 5.0 series. Install the antiX 5.10 kernel from the popular apps tab in MXPI (MX Package Manager) and see the difference.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

No, it doesn't do anything for me. see for myself compared to the latest xanmod/liquorix kernel.siamhie wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 1:45 pm As @wdscharff mentioned, the 6.0 kernels are about 100MB heavier than the 5.0 series. and worst of all, i wanted to do my usual speed test, so create snapshot.
The Antix kernel crashed on me every time, I had to mechanically shut down the PC. At first I thought it was a problem because I always have MOC running in the background and I like to play freecell while taking snapshots (only takes 4 minutes with xz), but it was not. then i try three times without any other programm ... crashed! And no, I'm not troubleshooting, I'm quite happy with the xanmod (and sometimes liquorix) kernel!
antix xanmod liquorix

Re: mx 23 heavy on ram usage
Just to make sure that we have the right numbers here, post screenshots of htop from both Mint and MX after fresh boots.
Re: mx 23 heavy on ram usage
after following the instructions and consequently disabling some services on startup, i was able to bring down the ram usage to 580mb from 650+Arnox wrote: Sat Sep 23, 2023 5:31 pm Just to make sure that we have the right numbers here, post screenshots of htop from both Mint and MX after fresh boots.

Re: mx 23 heavy on ram usage
100 MB more or less won't make a noticable difference if you have 8 GB of RAM, just saying. The CPU has 2 cores/4 threads with a max. frequency of 3.4 GHz. It should suffice for a fluent system, too. What exactly do you mean with "stutters"? Graphical or audio stutter or mouse lag? In case of audio you want to install rtkit.
PS: I'm running on a 2011 4x3.0 GHz APU with integrated graphics just fine :D Using 16 GB RAM, though, but 8 was fine before I upgraded, too. Only when I venture into 1080p60 or 4k video playback, my machine gets pushed to its limits.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
