flatpak app = diamond-shaped icon in taskbar

#1 Post by user101 »

Every flatpak-installed app shows a generic diamond-shaped icon in the taskbar when it's open. So if I have 2 apps that were (unfortunately) installed flatpak-style, and they are both open, I will have 2 diamond-shaped icons showing in my taskbar, and I can't tell them apart without going in. Same thing with just the one app open...the generic diamond-shaped icon is annoying and stupid.

I have consulted the internet. They say to install an app called Alacarte. Oddly, Alacarte installs itsef under the name "Main Menu" in my menu. I have no idea why they did that.

Anyway, I don't know if Alacarte will help me because when I choose GIMP in the app (an app I installed flatpak-style), it shows the normal GIMP icon. So there is nothing to change. The GIMP icon shows up fine, it just that when the app is open and in-use I don't see a GIMP icon in my taskbar, for example.

I hope I have made sense. Is there a solution to this?

Right click on the app in the task bar. A dialog box will open. There you can change the icon to whichever you like (download one to your pictures folder if you want). Sometimes when you click on the icon to change it, the system takes a while to respond because it is searching the drive for icon files. Just wait for it and then point it to the one you like. Do that for each app.
