So far I have noticed the system monitor and firewall implementations being broken on init because it requires systemd. I thought I was being unlucky at first but I keep getting third party confirmation.
It seems that most of the featurecreep of KDE will require systemd or are these bugs likely to be fixed?
For the next KDE variant will systemd be the default or will KDE be dropped entirely if these bugs are not fixed? MXL is an anti-systemd distro after all.
I have noticed that init and systemd do not share all desktop settings (startup, driver settings, etc) when I did my test to see if the bugs are present.... is systemd perfectly stable on MXL if I am forced to switch?
init vs systemd, detected bias problem from KDE.

I don't think so, for any of the MX releases.rambo919 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:19 am... For the next KDE variant will systemd be the default ...?
You can even turn it into systemd completely: installing systemd-sysvrambo919 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:19 am... is systemd perfectly stable on MXL if I am forced to switch?..
Just, you may have problems about snapshots, live sessions etc... since they were all done according to SysV .
Code: Select all
$ apt install -s systemd-sysv
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
...
Recommended packages:
libnss-systemd
The following packages will be REMOVED:
systemd-shim sysvinit-core
The following NEW packages will be installed:
systemd-sysv

Open MX Tools -> MX Boot Options and select the systemd version of your current kernel. Apply and reboot.rambo919 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:19 am is systemd perfectly stable on MXL if I am forced to switch?
I've been running the systemd version of MX KDE without problems since ...the beginning? And on 7 machines so far.

Same here on one machine since MX 21.markol wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 8:59 amOpen MX Tools -> MX Boot Options and select the systemd version of your current kernel. Apply and reboot.rambo919 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:19 am is systemd perfectly stable on MXL if I am forced to switch?

the live system is not 100% with systemd at the moment. MX is not an anti-systemd distro, that is a common misconception.rambo919 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:19 am

Just saw this https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/09/p ... -recovery/
It really looks like KDE will sooner rather than later basically require systemd and wayland, the only way I can see how to keep using alternatives on MX in the long term is if sections start being rewritten.... which I doubt will happen.
To be clear I don't necessarily mean right now but I think the future direction they are headed into is obvious.
I will at some point start switching to systemd in the mean time though and see how it goes.
